It's "The Way of the Republican."

I keep imagining that the Rethug senators from, oh, I dunno, Kentucky, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and any others from states where the governors are Democrats, will just happen to be together on a plane heading for a Koch seminar when the unthinkable happens. Then Joe Manchin can go on a nice, long fishing trip -- and he can take Kyrsten Sinema with him, the filibuster would be a memory, and the For the People Act would tamp down on vote suppression, gerrymandering, and the rest of the shenanigans Rethugs use to hold onto minority rule. If the Dems had a 55-45 Senate, no one would care what the distinguished senator from Hootin' Holler thinks. Ditto for our only bisexual senator (which, I have to say, is one of the most intriguing things about her).

It’s a nice dream. I just doubt it can be made a reality.

Becerra and Haaland are good people who absolutely should be confirmed. On the other hand, Neera Tanden sucks. That's not sexism or racism, she objectively sucks a big bag of neoliberal ass. Joe Manchin coming out against her marks the first time in, well, EVER, that a news article prominently featuring Joe Manchin didn't make me want to punch someone (usually Joe Manchin) in the face.

You have not mentioned that Becerra is so-o-o good-looking. They have to stop him.

"Students for Life"? I would have thought that would be something frowned upon by Republicans. Weren't they against financial aid after the first four years of college because they didn't want to encourage students who wouldn't leave?

I assume the article believes it's racially or ethnically motivated and it probably is but in the case of Health and Human Services it may go much deeper than that.

The Secretary of Health and Human Services under USC Titles 8 and 42 has statutory responsibility and authority for preventing the introduction, transmission and spread of communicable diseases in the United States and that includes measures in the event of inadequate local control.

Knowing somewhat about the public health laws both federal and state I have been shocked that governors, legislatures and the courts believe and have often made the decisions that they do not have the authority to make. North Dakota just passed a law banning mask wearing enforcement.

If you don't believe public health authorities have the power to shut you down and arrest you for public health violations just fail health department inspections or contract a venereal disease.

The fact that Trump and his incompetent and corrupt administration allowed all this to go on is unconscionable and I hope the Biden administration has a spine because that's what it's going to take to defeat this pandemic.

He was my rep when I lived in Echo Park, I like that dude. In addition to his being hispanic, I suspect that the number of lawsuits he filed as California AG against God Emperor Trump has turned some against him.
