Unfortunately, Idiot Urnst decided that Hegseth the adulterous wild child would be a terrific Secretary of Defense.

Megan Macomber's avatar

And now, today, The Mood Has Changed! The Hegseth Nom might make it after all! Because Heg "held the line" and "stuck it out" like a true Trump soldier.

But mainly because "the content of their character," to say nothing of their qualifications for/ability to do the job mean nothing. It's only The Mood that matters in MAGA World.

I love how Hesgeth's drinking problem is so bad that it takes priority over allegations of sexual assault.

Lynn Veit's avatar

Alcoholism is suddenly a Serious Matter to them. Sexual assault, well, now, that's just boys being boys.

Women are not priorities unless we get all uppity about equal rights and being allowed to make our own healthcare decisions. Then we have to be put in our place, with force if necessary.

I feel a primal scream coming on.

kmblue187's avatar

Well, Trump killed a million Americans by botching Covid. So if Hegweth sends in troops where they don't belong, he could challenge Trump's record.

Lynn Veit's avatar

And he would. Because he's just that fucking stupid and careless with other people's lives.

Lynn Veit's avatar

Re: Covid...ran into an old acquaintance the other day who couldn't resist crowing about the Mango King's win "in spite of the Democrats trying everything in the book, even having Fauci mastermind the unleashing COVID on the American people...all to make Trump look bad."

I couldn't tell if he really believed that horseshit or just wanted to see what I would say.

In either case, I was so gobsmacked I was speechless. What the hell do you say to someone you used to know as an intelligent, literary, college-educated, mostly progressive individual, and when you run into them again years later, they've gone full-bore MAGAt?

kmblue187's avatar

I would say nothing. Bait or true belief, I'd be wasting my time.

Lynn Veit's avatar

You're right of course. Just that years ago, this was someone I would never have pegged as a potential RWNJ. I can't help wondering what happened in the intervening years to turn a person who was an Obama fan in 2008, into a clueless Trump fanboi spouting insane conspiracy theories.

kmblue187's avatar

It's happened to some of my friends and relatives.

Scary, isn't it?

Lynn Veit's avatar

Sometimes I have to wonder if it's like an infectious brain disease or something. But yes, it's scary. Very much so.

Sojourner44's avatar

If the South Carolina power bottom is waffling, this nomination is totally fucked.

jltympanum's avatar

Picking Hogshead was just a feint, so that when Pete goes down in flames, F34 could then nominate someone just as bad (but without the obvious personal problems) like Pam "Bondage" Bondi, and get responses like "good choice" and "excellently qualified candidate" by contrast.

Mister Bubbles's avatar

It does have the feel of asking twice what you'll actually take for a used car.

Major Kong's avatar

Trump doesn't take office for another 6 weeks and I'm already sick of the chaos and incompetence.

Lynn Veit's avatar

A lot of us are there with you. Sometimes I wish I could just throw the TV out the window, or at least convince my husband to put it in storage for the next four years. And trash my laptop and never go near a news stand. But I don't think that's feasible. No matter how hard I try to avoid it, this stench on our country is going to be front and center for the next four years at least. We will all find ways to cope. I hope we are able to break on through to the other side, if there is one.

belfryo's avatar

So disappointing. I wanted him to land the job...Give me incompetent fascism over competent fascism ANY day of the week...The 'relationship' between Hegseth and top military brass would have been enough to utterly castrate whatever 'power' he had...

Mister Bubbles's avatar

I see the wisdom in that, but it's horrifying either way.

belfryo's avatar

there IS no straight up winning for now...just the occasional counterintuitive potential 'win'

Another in that category: I'm glad that dems lost the House. WHATEVER happens in the next 4 years will be 100% on republicans. We won't own ANY of it...If we had even a ONE point house majority, the MSM and Republicans would find a way to blame EVERYTHING on us...While the republican party will continue to play the blame game, the MSM (outside of explicit RW media) won't have that luxury...Notice all the last-minute digs the MSM is getting in on Biden before he leaves EVEN as a LITERAL fascist government of felons and rapists are poised to take over on J20...

MSM gonna miss us when we're gone. All their fingers will be pointing back at THEMSELVES

Lynn Veit's avatar

We may not own any of the shitstorm that's coming, but they will still blame us and find a way to sell that "alternative fact" to the MAGAt herd. There will always be some vague, imaginary bugaboo out there they will point to as "Them Evil Sore-loser Demon-crats" trying to destroy the country. Count on it.

belfryo's avatar

Again this will be about reaching the disengaged self involved apathetic American citizen. We couldn't reach them through pleas fir decency and reason, But now they will be reached by getting exactly what they voted for or sat out the election for. Apparently the only way these idiots can learn is to hurt, and there is a world of that coming for them. Good. If that's what it takes bring it on. The people who couldn't be bothered to stand up for democracy are going to have to wake the fuck up whether they like it or not. There won't be an option to opt out anymore

'“For the sake of national security, I really hope he has stopped drinking,” one of the former Fox employees said.'

There, libs. How much more vetting do you need?

Mister Bubbles's avatar

'For the sake of national security, I really hope trump is no longer a narcissistic, compromised Russian asset,' said no member of fox or maga congress.

Ernst is much too competent-adjacent to be a Trump pick.

belfryo's avatar

I don't want competent fascism...I want it all to fail right out of the gate on J 20

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

According to Kristi Noem, a farm girl will shoot any dog on sight.

So Ernst has that in her favor.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MY GLOATING MAGA NEIGHBOR

You Know Who You Are: Your House Still Draped in MAGA Banners, Red Hat Firmly on Your Head, and Truck Plastered with Trump Stickers

Mike_Cramer's avatar

There are homes in my area that have been festooned with Trump regalia since 2016.

I want to see them all burn to the ground.

Lynn Veit's avatar

I would like to be there to see that.

kmblue187's avatar

Mike should sell tickets.

Lynn Veit's avatar

I'll take two. How much?

Stephanie Hobbs's avatar

Excellent. Do you live in my neighborhood? I'm in a blue state but my neighbor still has his Trump signs out. Ugh

Lynn Veit's avatar

I'm in a blue state but the MAGAts who live in my neighborhood went all out on Trump regalia. One of them got a YUUUUUGE "Trump WINS!" banner right after the election, complete with Rotting Mango's smirking face right in the middle. It covered almost the entire front of his house. Every time I drive past there, I think "burn. baby, burn!"

Open Letters by Mersault's avatar

I’m in a Blue State in a conservative county.

Sgt JMK's avatar

Same. Everyone thinks Noo Yawk is so librul, but it's like a red state out here on Lawn Guyland.

My MAGA neighbor included a Trumpie poster among his Halloween decorations (I told my sister it was the scariest thing on his lawn), but thankfully, he has shown a bit of restraint since Election Day, and the only decoration on his lawn recently was a giant inflatable turkey that I chose to regard as a reference to Trump.

Dina's avatar

Very well-said! Loved it!

Joshua Arnold's avatar

I do think any Senator who downplays it should be asked if they would vote to confirm him if they were the one he'd raped.

Free beach's avatar

He’s in trouble. Susan Collins is concerned. Strongly worded email to follow.

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Uh-oh. Secure the doilies, lieutenant.

DemoCat's avatar

Mom doesn’t want to be responsible for Sweet Pete not ending up in charge of national security. She knows he’s a threat to women and lacks the character or qualifications for the job. But that’s less important than the personal consequences for her alone. So please put Sweetie Pete in charge of national security, so mom can avoid any guilt or attacks from the MAGA cult.

RRJKR's avatar

These are indeed dark times, but we can't give up RESIST! Trump has NO GD "mandate" He won by a less than 2% margin, and did not even get a 50% win. Enough already of letting him do whatever he wants! He is not the Lord High Emperor he thinks he is

Lynn Veit's avatar

But enough of his lackeys and sycophants believe he is to make his delusions a reality.

RRJKR's avatar

Last year, there were 29,000 reported cases of sexual abuse by female armed services members. No doubt this is a gross under reporting, and the actual number is most likely far higher. This is bullshit. boys. If you can't treat your female comrades in arms with appropriate respect, you need to get your asses out of our military.

The latest news is that Pete Hegseth is DOIN' IT FER DA WARFIGHTERS and manly man WON'T BACK DOWN! IT AM ALL LIZE! Clearly the magas have learned a few moves from THAT MAN. Just saying he'll hang tough in the face of DA LIBZ will surely get him some votes and spots on FOX with Mister Tire Deflator or Judge Boxwine.

RRJKR's avatar

Pete Hegseth can go straight to Hell

Lynn Veit's avatar

Along with Musk, Trump, and Vance/Bowman/whatever the hell his name is.
