Thank you for this very insightful essay, RP. There are real bad effects from Rep. Gosar's awful video. He's not going to kill the congresswoman himself. But he is going to normalize thinking about beating up, arresting and killing your political enemies (not just AOC and Gifford and Pelosi and Whitmer but now even the nice do-gooder lady who joined the school board to enhance STEM teaching for the poor kids). Their coalition contains lots of people who think mob violence is okay when done by "patriots" and whose grip on reality is lousy. The problem with Rep. Gosar and the rest of them is the creation of a Sturmabteilung and its infiltration into the police and military. The post is so right to lead us toward disrespecting that effort -- AOC's excellent dismissive snark about Rep. Gosar was a great start with "collection of wet toothpicks."
And if they make a mistake on that, they eat it. (Or at least discuss it with you, come up with some agreement).
I had a crew come and do several jobs for me, one of which was a new screen door. Guy didn't look too hard at my door, and gave a quote that figured it would take him at most a couple hours. It ended up taking two days - old house, shifting foundation, damn thing just would not hang.
He took it as a lesson to be more careful in his estimating next time, didn't charge me any extra, and as a result got an extremely good review from me and some jobs as I sang his praises all over town.
And maybe a little cancer?
