I understand you situation very well. You didn't have to pay for the privelege during the Vietnam era, but it cost our kids when they wanted to go to the US to study and/or work. At the time he left, you couldn't have joint US citizenship, but now you can, and that has paid off in spades for a lot of our friends' kids. We have a number of friends who have kept their US citizenship for decades, who have only recently taken out Canadian citizenship and who are still earning and considering renouncing. It's not such an easy choice as it was for my husband - who tried to get conscientious objector status but wasn't about to pull a Ted Nugent.

It's what you'll have to fill up your tires with if you're ever travelling in Canada. PSI's are really old school.

As I understand the parliamentary system, if two smaller parties can combine to outnumber the leading party, they can form a coalition government. Of course it is less stable, and more likely to become prey to votes of non confidence, but as long as their members stick together, they get to rule.

Don't forget that Canada has a heck of a lot of boats, so maybe they should extend those walls out to the twelve mile limit.

They can do it, and it did happen in Ontario in the 80's, and worked damn well, also, too, but what would have to happen is for the opposition parties to get their shit together and agree to a) vote down the gov't on a motion of confidence, and b) get their shit together enough to agree on running the coalition. then there's the fact that back in 2008/9, the Libs and NDP seemed willing to give it a go, so Dear Leader got the governor general to prorogue (or suspend) Parliament to prevent it from happening. It's a pity, because that Lib/NDP coalition in Ontario resulted in some good legislation.

I love how calm and polite they are when telling Walker "shut your piehole you fucking moron." I picture them rolling their eyes SO hard.

I have long maintained that in any reasonable method of governance, the worst difficulties arise, not from systemic problems, but mostly from human error or pigheadedness..
