This is mind boggling. It’s a slap to our face. Yes, the shut down was tough but I was battening down the hatches, canceling subscriptions, limiting my holiday purchases, and donating heavily to local support systems. I was prepared for a long drawn out battle but I knew it as worth the relative short term struggle. The Republican blame game was not working and we had the upper hand. The polls and midterm election proved it. We held the winning cards but those 7 senators folded. Incidentally those senators are not up for election next year… we need a whole Democratic regime change. Time to go the way of the NYC mayor.

"They made it so that people who have suffered for these 40 days and 40 nights have suffered for absolutely nothing. For no purpose at all."

To quote Jon Stewart: "I can't fucking believe it."

oh, knock it the fuck off...what, exactly, were the MINORITY PARTY IN ALL THREE BRANCHES OF THE GOVT supposed to do, exactly?...

--let everyone on SNAP starve? guess what, they negotiated AN INCREASE IN SNAP PAYMENTS OVER THE NEXT YEAR

--let trump fire 3000 more fed workers? GUESS WHAT, THEY FORCED THOSE PEOPLE TO BE REHIRED

--let trump get away with not giving back-pay to fed workers? guess what, THE DEAL FORCES HIM TO BACK-PAY THOSE WORKERS

--let trump and the idiot sean duffy further fuck-up air travel and air traffic control, which they CLEARLY want to PRIVATISE by wrecking it until it is no longer viable--guess what THE AIRPORTS ARE GOING TO BE OPEN NOW, and privatisation of what used to be a fairly well-run and safe system has been pusehd back, and oh yeah...

you EPSTEIN FILES WHINYASSTITTYBABIES, the house of representatives is once again OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The Democrats fear most of all an aware working class which is conscious of the class war - yes Marx again! That pesky German will just not go away; after 180 years more relevant than ever!

The antiques of the Dem party are past masters at demoralizing the working class - they've been at it since the Vietnam War! Their hearing aids picked up anger with Trump by the small fry so of course the answer is CAPITULATE!

The Democrats can fuck off, along with the Republicans. It's always about their self serving goals, while Americans pay and pay and pay. The richest country in the world doesn't do anything for its people, just takes our money and goes on vacation.

The only good to come of this is Grijalva gets sworn in.

I have two questions: 1.) How deep is the progressive bench? 2.) How many of them can primary CorpoDems?

Call it like it is: those 8 are maga.

I predict that Republicans will let people suffer for months on end and then proclaim some form of ACA under the name of their golden 🍊💩 and king 🍊💩 will say that he once again saved us.

That's their M.O., create a crisis, steal a solution that was in place, rebrand it, take credit.... plagiarism. Also, 🍊💩 will start an insurance company that will be chosen as the only acceptable one for their plan, congress and SCOTUS will invest in it and they will all be wealthy, healthy and happy 🤷🏽‍♀️

The real solution however is universal healthcare, single payer, whatever you want to call it, but Republicans won't allow that because they are too beholden to capitalism.

Democrats do not hold the majority of registered voters, and therefore had few options. Meanwhile, SNAP wasn't being funded, and other federal workers were working unpaid.

All of this is still the Republicans fault. Trump was never going to negotiate and was willing to starve millions of people in order to win. There was no way to stop many people from being hurt short of building a time machine and changing the outcome of the election.

Democrats are terrible at making the public aware of what we stand for > helping the poor and the middle-class. Nonetheless, the shut-down was stupid and did harm to a whole lot of people. DEMS could have had a short shutdown while taking out ads in major cities, explaining how people will be harmed by Trump/the GOP.

After letting the gop call it the Democrat Shutdown, you’d like to hope the Dems would be smart enough to at least brand this action: the Democratic Reopening

Do you really expect the same people who failed to learn the lesson of the republcions shooting down reform in the 90's by dubbing it "Hillarycare" and then let ACA be dubbed "Obamacare" by the republicons and ran with it instead of calling it "Americare" from the get go to understand the most basic aspects of messaging?

Americare, it has America in the name. Put that in front of a waving flag with an Eagle soaring and the rubes would have lapped it up.

This is why although I always vote for the Democratic Party, I don't send them money or walk in marches. Not worth it. They will always find a way to be cowards.

This whole affair would bother me less if I thought the Democratic leadership was at all capable of executing a disciplined campaign to affix and keep blame on the culprits, namely the Republicans. I don't see them doing that, and there almost certainly isn't going to be any goddamned vote on extending ACA subsidies. Why would they extend them, aside from basic human decency, which, of course, they don't have or value in the least?
