Did everyone tune in to the Women's World Cup Finals Sunday evening? If you are a lesbian, you did, because that was a thing that all living lesbians were required by law to do. It was so exciting! Our ladies beat the Japanese ladies, and America is the champion of the Women's World Cup for the first time since 1999. U-S-A! U-S-A!
They would have to draw crowds and do TV deals that the men do. Title IX got us where we are with women's sports, especially soccer, but in the real world it's about how many tickets you can sell. At least we can be happy that most of these women are on professional teams and playing year around.
This is what pissed France off mightily after they got slotted into a quarter-final with Germany - something that never should have happened as they should have been on opposite sides of the bracket or placed in a way that they'd meet in the semis. But the WWC doesn't do a true "draw" - some of the matches were jiggered to spread around the "good teams" and to ensure that the teams would be on TV at the prime viewing hour for their home nation because FIFA runs the whole thing as a money-losing venture. Hence the turf issues and in some cases opposing teams staying in the same hotel the night before their matchup - FIFA doesn't invest as heavily into the product, so they aren't willing to make things equitable.
Yep - and it frustrates me because it's a direct contradiction to claims of trying to "grow" the sport. You don't grow the sport by relegating it to second-class equipment or second-class treatment.
I was in a small sports bar in Wyoming, which was packed, and a huge cheer went up when The Kiss happened. Scalia is a dinosaur.
Girl-on-girl action is kinda hawwtt.
Aw, don't be dissing Hope. She's a true badass.
Is it possible that the artificial turf had something to do with the lack of flopping? As in, made it too painful?
I used to have Sepp Blatter, but I got better.
I lived in Toronto in the 80s, and the alternative newspaper personals had a whole category of "male lesbians."
I, for one, welcome our new athletic lesbian overladies.

Greatest "no F's to give" goal in history? Probably.
I saw the disparity in pay. Massi makes as much in one day than Wambach makes in one year playing Soccer. $180,000.00!
... although as a keeper myself, I feel for the poor Japanese lady who was caught off her line.

US beats Japan again! Next time, next time....
FIFA president Sepp Blatter suggested just that, but for some reason those silly ladies didn't like it.
And they probably got paid more than the players did.
