Quintonio LeGrier, 19, and Bettie Jones, 55 We still don't know why Chicago police used deadly force against 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier after his father, Antonio LeGrier, called 911 early Saturday morning to report that his son was threatening him with an aluminum baseball bat. We don't even know whether Quintonio LeGrier was shot by one cop or more than one, but we do know he was shot seven times. We also know the LeGriers' downstairs neighbor, Bettie Jones, 55, was also "accidentally struck and tragically killed," according to police -- though there again, we don't know the exact circumstances. Only a very cynical person would suggest Chicago police are holding off on releasing details because they're hiding something -- although, given the department's recent history of
Liability insurance, in general, does not cover misconduct. That is, if I slip and fall on ice on your sidewalk, your insurance covers. If you or a member of your family deliberately iced your sidewalk, your insurance would not cover my injuries and you'd be liable.
Since there are no criminal charges in this matter (yet) there is no 'misconduct'. If the case settles or the plaintiffs win in civil court, insurance will likely cover.
If I remember our friend Danah's excerpt from her trolling of some blog for cops, she said she wouldn't call the cops because they would probably shoot her pets while letting the perp get away.
Doesn't "Resulting in the discharge of the officer's weapon" just make it all seem fine? It's the gun, you see! It just...went off...in response to adverse stimuli.
If I had a bat and guns pointed at me, no matter how angry, I would realize it's a bad situation within the first minute. Why couldn't police fire a warning shot, and use a little time?
Chicken wings > chicken sex.

I'm usually nearby. (I also decide important constitutional matters. Scalia has my number.)
Police in the UK also killed 2 civilians. In the three-year period from 2012 through 2014.

I think....
On the issue of premiums I agree 100%.
Bettie was killed "accidentally." But Quintonio had it coming.

Calling 911 should not be a death sentence.
"Where's the love"
even if it weren't, I'm sure he wouldn't complain.
