Does the phrase "in dry dock with the minesweepers" ring any bells?

Their entire world is built upon a foundation of these kinds of lies.

This morning, a Trump mouthpiece was saying, "It's a good thing the president lowered gasoline prices so much because now they're going back up!"

Trump never lowered gas prices, we all know that. But now it's foundational canon for these mouth-breathers and it becomes logged away in their tiny brains as the true course of events. This false tale will live on in their memories of the Great and Fearless Leader and contribute to his legend.

"...promote things that are explicitly untrue and also pretend that bad things are actually good things..."

This has in fact been (almost the entirety of) the GOP project for decades. From The Republican Noise Machine to Ministry of Truth, chroniclers have written the details, culminating unnaturally naturally in the ascent of Donald Trump--not the party's chosen tool, but the tool who chose the party because on some feral level he grasped that their lying strategy meshed perfectly with his own. You get what you didn't know you were wishing for.

Damn, another opportunity missed for felon-47 to show a "Christian Nationalist" he was. Oh well, better luck next time.

Gotta give those “Christian’s” high marks for constantly somehow justifying “bearing false witness”. They can lie like nobody’s business!

Also those hospital ships are specifically designed to cater to trauma victims. You know, the kind you find in war zones.

I think I have solved the mystery. Apparently (based on Trump's photo), they sent a WWII era Liberty ship to Greenland. Sadly, the ship immediately ran into a ginormous TSUNAMI and immediately SANK. Sad!

Killer Kennedy's "cull the herd" strategy in action...

A staggering number of Americans are skipping meals in order to pay healthcare costs as prices rise under Donald Trump, according to a new survey.

The survey by the West Health–Gallup Center on Healthcare, conducted from June to August 2025, revealed that 11 percent of Americans, or 28 million people, said they had skipped a meal to pay for healthcare in the last 12 months.

Among Americans with health insurance, 9 percent said they had skipped a meal. Among Americans without insurance, that number jumped to 27 percent.

Overall, roughly one in three Americans—about 82 million people—are cutting back on basic expenses to cover healthcare costs, driving less to save on gas or cutting back on utilities.

That includes 29 percent of insured Americans and 62 percent of Americans without health insurance.

More than half of adults in households earning under $24,000 report making daily sacrifices, such as cutting meals or other expenses, to cover healthcare. Even among higher earners, millions report similar trade-offs.

Those in poor or fair health are hit hardest, with 62 percent of those in poor health saying they make everyday sacrifices, and 47 percent of those in fair health.

A recent poll by the health policy organization KFF found that healthcare costs now top public economic concerns, ahead of food, gas, and utilities.

Meanwhile, millions of Americans are bracing for sharply higher health insurance costs after enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits expired at the end of 2025. These temporary subsidies, first expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act and extended through 2025, helped cap marketplace premiums at no more than 8.5 percent of income for many enrollees.

It is a well-established principle in American politics that nothing changes until enough people have died. Maybe as a result of what is reported above, we will finally get some kind of sane health-insurance system.

Notice that Brooke Rollins did not specify what piece of the chicken. He may have been thinking of the tip of the wing.

And my doctor told me not to eat broccoli, on account of the potential for kidney stones (which is something you DO NOT want to happen to you).

This is purely anecdotal but I work at a VA hospital/ we are seeing more new patients to the system and have significantly more patients signing up for surgeries that are usually well covered under private insurance. I suspect among the insured patients, copays are rising and they are choosing to come to the VA where they might have gone local in the community prior

Here's a pretty big second-order effect of the Iranian War: Every Patriot missile on Earth is now heading to the Middle East.

Ukraine has long since become dependent on a credible Patriot ambush threat to keep the VVS at standoff range. Now Russian aviation flies comfortably.

Patriot missiles are defensive; they shoot down other airborne threats like military aircraft or other missiles.

Also, the Patriot missile batteries in Ukraine are operated by Ukrainians -- Biden had put some Ukrainian units through the training back when he was president. Point is, it's not like the US Army is going to go into Ukraine and take back the missiles that they gave them. They just won't send them any more missiles, but we already haven't been helping Ukraine since Trump became president.

There's also the slight issue that the USNS Mercy is about to get (or maybe is already getting) a major overhaul and will be out of service for an extended period. Maybe we could airdrop a pack of bandages and Tylenol on Greenland instead. Oh, and send them an incomprehensible bill for $43,976.22 afterward.

SteveInSoCal's avatar

The Mercy left dry dock last month and is currently off the west coast of Mexico. That aside, they were never going to send that ship to Greenland as its hull isn't ice-rated. Its sister ship, Comfort, is still in dry dock for maintenance.
