When Russert died suddenly, NBC appointed David Gregory to host the program. Perhaps anyone would have failed but he was awful and didn't last long. Chuck was his replacement because ... Russert-approved.
That boy has been out of his depth ever since they let him out of the basement at C-SPAN. It's hard to figure out how he got as far as he did by doing basically nothing.

He takes one of his many fuck ups and seems to be agreeing with the obvious criticism of it but then frames it as a slightly different criticism. That is both much more mild and insane. So maybe he’s the evil Svengali, but just hides it really really well.
