Of course, any agreement they could have made could not have included *this*, so I think we can still pity her.

It's fairly new, though. Michelle *may* have started it - I haven't bothered to research it yet.

I think, out of all of his wives, she has the best position, because now, whatever he does will be openly opposed by millions of people.

It's DC in the winter. Strapless would be a chilly idea.

“It’s not a birth certificate,” Melania says as she shakes her head.

Even with the jacket on I thought Melania looked like a giant condom with a head.

The orange shitgibbon doesn't want that poor kid. He has always left the child rearing to the mothers. He brags that he's never changed a diaper. He might pay Melanoma more if she threatened to leave the kid with him.

Yeah - remember that Jerry Hall just married Rupert Murdoch. Isn't he about 112?

Wow, that is fascinating, thank you. I had no idea Barbara went through such things. As you mention, I did have a picture of her as a steely, rock-ribbed Yankee matriarch, and a wealthy one at that. I thought she was a bit haughty. Thank you for sketching in some of her emotional background, that does change my perception. One thing I do like about Barbara was when she was asked about the GOP using abortion as a wedge issue and platform. "I don't think it's anyone's business", she frostily replied, meaning she found the political tactic distasteful. Secretly pro-choice?

Right now I'm reading a bio of a sister of a First Lady, Lee Radziwill. I expected it to be mean and trashy -"In Her Sister's Shadow" is the title- but it's surprisingly well-written. Just the right amount of critical about Lee's glamorous but aimless and it seems unhappy life. What glamorous scenes it goes through though- upper class life in the 40s and fifties, debutante balls, being at the center of the exciting JFK administration, marrying a prince and hobnobbing with UK/Euro aristos, the 60s jet set and café society, being friends with amazing people like Warhol and Capote and Nureyev, going on tour with the Stones in the early 70s.. She's not a particularly likeable person. But she's had an amazing life. And despite her protests, yes she was always envious of Jackie! :)

Very well said. I have huge amounts of empathy for Melania, or for any woman married to a controlling, powerful man. They have their reasons, and escaping the poverty she experienced in Slovenia , seeking safety and security.. I make no judgment. And I wish her well.

I have to admit I may feel a bit sorry for Melania. Mostly bc she is married to an asshole that has embarrassed her a bazillion times since announcing his run. With all the oh so happy photos of her since Friday I'm thinking her whole cyber bullying campaign is her way of trolling her husband. Trump looks miserable at the table up there because where the fuck is the bucket of KFC and the Big Mac he requested! Melania knows she will never fill the shoes of our beloved Mrs. Obama. Here ends the era of class in the White House and onto the era of ass in the White House! Remember this poor Mrs. Trump, this job will make him age much quicker!
