Given the plain fact that the only alternative is to allow a plague of Willie Hortons to descent on 'Merkin white wimmenfolk, this is indeed a thorny dilemma. You can see why Texas errs on the side of caution.

With Hellfires going for $60,000 a pop, wholesale, I don't think "efficiency" is quite what they have in mind. On the other hand, it still beats the death penalty, which is maybe why the LAPD wants to buy a few.

I wonder if the fans of state-sponsored death and destruction spectacles (they filled the Roman Coliseum, NASCAR stands, etc.) would be happy if we just faked a war against Eastasia, and fed them their daily ration of blood and gore in staged YouTube and Ogrish videos. Hollywood has this stuff down cold.

I also wonder how easily you could convince the conspiracy nutz that Obama is already doing exactly this. Because, really, <i>it's the only explanation, sheeple!!!!1!</i>
