The gif wasn’t animating for me in the embed at the top of tabs today, but I clicked through and it works fine on the glambassador’s page.

Maybe it’s just my phone needing a reset.

The same thing happened to me. Weirdest thing is that it plays in the thumbnail on the home page. 'Tis a mystery...

Usually I try to reload the page, but sometimes I guess that doesn't work. Glad you were able to eventually view it.

I didn’t realize they were so big! I don’t live in porky-pin territory. I do, according to some weird Appalachian show on my teevee yesterday, live near “Woodbooger” territory. It’s VA’s version of Bigfoot. I swear the narrator tried to say “woodbooger” as many times as he could.

Martini Glambassador's avatar

I have never heard of a Woodbooger, and now I must go in search of new knowledge!

We used to have tons of porcupines around here when I was younger. Eventually, they mostly (all? Maybe all, because I haven't seen any in the past 16 years) disappeared. I figured it was from everyone putting in fences and having dogs. But no, apparently a bunch of the illegal cannabis grows that used to be around before legalization considered porcupines to be a pest and poisoned them. Fuck you, people -- I'd rather have the porcupines.

I love Dark Passage so much I'm seriously considering waking up at 2 am Dublin time to join the Wonk viewing.

One of the best movie endings ever. Also, Agnes Moorehead is a sublime hoot in it.

Ta, Rebecca. We'll be seeing you in just over a week. Ta, Martini. Beautiful porcupette and chilling meme. Darling husband Meccalopolis served me flowery green tea when I got out of bed, and cut the watermelon I'm enjoying now. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. We love and appreciate you all and we bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.

Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot six months after your last and catch up on any other vaccines you need (and if there are children in your life, make sure they're vaccinated also, too), avoid indoor and crowded outdoor gatherings and when you must meet, remove masks only to eat, drink, and take quick photos, and stay the fuck away from us and anyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because we love you, too. Do this in memory of 27 Club member Treg and heroic Tony, Holly's pilot friend, among nearly eight million dead worldwide. Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (we adore you, all medicos of Wonkette, active and retired), especially ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark, RN. Stay safe. And VOTE!!

We had foraged wild mushrooms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner yesterday! Happy Friday, Wonks who celebrate! Just another day in retirement for us.

The bolete called Old Man of the Woods (Meccalopolis had found it before, but didn't know it's edible so this was the first time he gathered it) is SO delicious! It looks quite weird, and tastes like truffle. Foraged mushroom breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delightful. Happy Hooper day to all who celebrate (we enjoy the recipes but have yet to make one). Just took the wholegrain vegan challah out of the freezer for Shabbat.

Meccalopolis's avatar

The old man bolete was fried in EV olive oil with thyme and our secret herb and finished with butter spooned over served on toast fried in the oil. Zyx described its flavor as an above ground truffle.

A Japanese band I like, Market Shop Store, announced they're calling it a day recently. They just put out their final video, "Mudboat."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUreYUYg310

Guitarist and band leader Kasumi formed Market Shop Store in 2016, and their last show on September 13th will mark their literal 10th anniversary. Vocalist Mame and drummer Chiba have been there from the start, and bassist Nano joined in January of 2022.

Had a sign of hope on a road trip yesterday: In the rural counties west of Atlanta, I saw Joel Ossoff yard signs.

I also learned an incredible history of that area that I never knew about. Prior to Prohibition, the area west of Atlanta was one of the most prolific wine producing regions in the country. Hungarian settlers left the mines of the Northeast and moved down to Georgia, discovering fertile hillsides with terroir suitable to some of their favorite grape vines. Georgia's prohibition in 1907-1908 destroyed the communities that had been built up over the last few decades and set back the wine region for over a century. Only in the last two decades are some of the old vineyards being revived in that area, and it's once again producing some incredible wines. We visited four of the different wineries (all the owners are friends/rivals) and left with five bottles, one of the highest compliments we can give to a wine producing region.

I've got a little brainstorming project going.

The death of Fukui on 7/20, following the loss of so many wonkers over the years, got me thinking about how we share that kind of event. How do we get the word out? How do we make sure people in our Real Life will let our wonk-friends know if we've died, or are in dire need of help?

This is an in-the-works thing, not an up and running hub… yet. Just looking for ideas about how to make it work. We can talk about that here on Wonkette (where comments aren't allowed), or over at the page I created for that purpose. The "WonkContact" page has some of my own thoughts, a link to the original wonkette discussion I started the week Fukui had passed, and screenshots of some of the comments here on Wonkette that week when I proposed the idea. There's some good stuff in that collection: https://sisterartemis.com/collecting-ideas-wonkcontact/

I'll be reposting this a few times in the Morning Tabs and OT threads. Please share any ideas or thoughts you have.

[Note: I edited the settings on my wordpress site so that you don't have to have a wordpress account, just an email, to comment; that prevented someone from dropping a note there yesterday]

I threw some Ameros at the young woman running as the Dem for Montana’s Senate seat. Any chance, if things keep going this way, that even she might win?

Alani Bankhead. Six weeks ago, it was hard to see that she was actually the Dem nominee. Now? Her campaign site at least looks organized. But there’s an independent who won’t drop out (yet) and would split the liberal vote. Jeebus fucking crackheads. Too many of these people are fucking incompetent nutbags. GET IT TO-FUCKING-GETHER. THIS IS ACTUALLY SERIOUS.

Websites require two different skill sets to make - someone who can design/develop them, and someone who can fill them with content. Modern day web companies like Wix or Squarespace have eliminated the need for a designer/developer, but you still need a content manager. It's a full time job, and not something that can be easily done with pure volunteer staff.

My hope is that her campaign now has the funds to hire a campaign manager, and that manager has the skills needed to hire a full time web content person to manage that aspect. These days it often overlaps with the full time social media manager; on larger campaigns they will be separate people.

A Tad Impatient To 86 47's avatar

Yeah, it was hard to even tell that she’d won the primary before. And clearly she’s got some pro help now. Thanks for your clear discussion. I’m gonna use it to help tell myself I’m not just throwing money into a black hole. 👍🏻

Ms. Bankhead is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. She looks pretty good. Of course, she’d be better if she were a retired Navy Commander (equivalent rank), but …

Please laugh. Chuckle? Too obvious? But I know there are very few slackers at this rank.

"In response to overwhelming demand, the Department of State is making an additional 250,000 of the special commemorative passports available to the public," the agency said Thursday. "Americans all across the country will now have the opportunity to apply for one of these additional special passports, known as the 'Patriot Passport.'"

ATTN MEDIA: Please focus your questions on the Georgia NaziGate at the DAUGHTER of Republican candidate Mike Collins. For crying out loud, how can you not have asked the following questions:

* Mr. Collins, does your daughter support her husband's Nazi views?

* If so - and she certainly seems to support them - where did she learn the mindset that Nazi views are cool? Was it from her upbringing? Specifically, from you? Or are you going to blame your wife on this one?

* If you claim your daughter does NOT support her husband's Nazi views - and we all know she's on the record as being on his side, but give it your best shot - if, again, she does NOT support her husband's Nazi views, why in God's name is she still married to and living with a Nazi?

GO AFTER THE DAUGHTER, YOU SPINELESS MORONS. THAT'S A DIRECT ***FAMILY*** TIE TO COLLINS.

You are welcome.

Cheers Y'all's avatar

I fail to see how one spouse could remain married to the other if the other is or becomes Nazified. And kids are no excuse, get those kids away from that. So I call Malarky! She's right there with him.

VwllssWndr's avatar

Families are off-limits.

Unless the person you're attacking is a Democrat, because boy howdy, Carter and Clinton sure had some hideously ugly daughters, amirite? LOL!

TalentNotAutotune's avatar

BINGO. A Republican Senate candidate's daughter is either a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer. How much of the blame for that goes to Mike Collins? That's a brutal question but as I once saw on a flag, fuck your feelings.

Why the Nazi/Nazi sympathizer daughter isn't the headline; nay, the entire story, is beyond me.
