Ta, Robyn. No. No taxpayer funds to support bigotry. Not now, not ever.

why the fuck are they punishing the children for what the parents do anyway?

Uhm. . . Tim Miller is NOT a Republican (anymore, anyway).

Let them, & take their tax breaks back.

Nick Reaves, an attorney with Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, said in a statement. “...We’re confident the Court will say the same thing here and put a stop to Colorado’s no-Catholics-need-apply rules.”

Playing the victim AND misrepresenting CO policies. It's a right wing twofer!

> The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that states cannot exclude families from government benefits because of their faith.

THIS IS LITERALLY THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THAT!!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

As an atheist I'd like to see all non-religious operations (pre-school, schools, hospitals, etc.) taxed.

Dudley Didwrong's avatar

If states or communities won't tax religious groups, I would like to see those religious groups billed for some approximation of the services they receive--roads, police protection, fire protection, etc. During my time in the (mainstream church) ministry (over 20 years) I tried to get the congregations which I served to provide at least a token payment to the counties or cities where the parishes were in lieu of taxes. They went for it about as well as if I had invited Satan to take over the preaching duties--or maybe they thought that I had done that, come to think of it.

Me, too. I don't like my tax dollars supporting religion that ends up discrmiinating against people.

I made the mistake of clicking on the NY Post story. The comments were repellent.

Let me guess: From the usual unreconstructed filth?

Stephen St John's avatar

I just looked at it myself. The title of the article alone is repellant enough.

guess Ryley gets to learn what “fighting words” mean in a legal context

EyeQueue's avatar

Sadly, that concept has been so watered down I don't think it even exists anymore. We have this idea that everyone deserves to spout their opinion and if you punch someone for saying something bigoted and vile, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG! YOU NEVER HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUNCH SOMEONE EVER! (Is what these sniveling cowards think).

Major Kong's avatar

I had to Google Ryley. That is one punchable face.

Next up: The Catholics will demand that they have the right to burn heretics and non-believers at the stake, and laws preventing this are unconstitutional because of religious freedom guaranteed in the US Constitution.

So, 5 or 6 justices in favor or not?

Wookiee Monster's avatar

Since it’s probably a foregone conclusion that the Leonard Leo Six will rule that it’s unfair! not to give bigot schools taxpayer money, how about Colorado gives same sex couples a tax refund so they aren’t subsidizing bigotry agains them?

Rags's avatar

So Catholics are individually more or less ok with the gay. However, pope bob and his predecessor's relentless evil stance in abortion has turned so many catholics into one issue voters. Scotus also too.

Vic's avatar

Four gay popes in a row? What are the chances?

marxalot's avatar

the US Conf of Catholic Bishops is the most hidebound collection of reactionary regressives the church has produced who are not directly associated with the congregation for the doctrine of the faith (fka the inquisition, Ratzinger’s old desk)

and they have done a huge amount of crying and decrying when it comes to the social issues on which they have mostly lost the congregation but feel they deserve to win the war

devourerofpancakes's avatar

It's not Bob's fault. You have to go all the way back to JPII! He was extremely tlreactionary and promoted the likeminded. Ratzinger carried on what he started.

Wookiee Monster's avatar

If 70% of Catholics are fine with marriage equality, they should vote with their butts and with their dollars. If the church sees empty pews and empty collection plates, they’ll change their stance real quick.

Hobbes17's avatar

Thing is, the bigot reactionary wing would rather the church was small and 'pure'. Us lefty inclusive types who are more than fine with LGBTQ+ people having equal rights and think the USA bishops are in general a bunch of regressive bigoted arseholes. I hate being put in the same group as them.

FAFO. Perhaps don't fuck with a couple one of whom is carrying a newborn? Fucker only raised like $1800 for "a new camera". Meanwhile, the gay guy who gave him a nice little shiner raised over $60k for his defense fund.

I'll never understood why some people are under the impression that LGBTQ+ folks won't cut a bitch.

we all learned to fight when we were young, people like that asshole taught us

Bagels of Doom's avatar

I can't fight for shit but I will grab anything that can be a weapon and do not give a flying fuck.

Sherry's avatar

They just seem so obsessed with gayness. Can we create a mental illness category call Gay Hysteria Syndrome? They need some other hobby.

Bagels of Doom's avatar

It's not homosexuality that scares them, it's that a lot of LGBTQ+ people are happy what drives them nuts. If they can't drag everyone down to their level, they apparently lose their entire reason to exist.

Let us never forget that baptism at birth followed by adhering to weekly rituals and attending a parochial school until adulthood is literally the definition of indoctrination.

I went to an Irish Catholic parochial grammar school, kindergarten through 8th grade. I absolutely hated 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 of it. I can't state that strongly enough.

Same.

Though I was forced to carry it through for High School, where I learned to not give a fuck.

Did like my solidarity nuns though in hindsight

Lund-O-Matic's avatar

I used to be left handed but the nuns beat it out of me. To be fair, it was before Vatican II.
