...irrational exuberance...

I got the 𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 part covered, so half way?

"...Democratic nominee Hallie Shoffner, a farmer and businesswoman, had a narrow lead (47.4 percent) against incumbent Republican Tom Cotton (44 percent)..."

It's almost, but not quite enough to drive a susceptible fellow to prayer! As I would have to drive past bourbon to get to prayer, I am not susceptible. But the schadenfreude would be second only to the satisfaction of knowing that Cotton was gone. He's creep to scare children with, "Clear your plate or Tom Cotton might come over..."

"...who we always mix up with Missouri’s Josh Hawley because both look like rodents."

Giraffes, Cotton is the rat with the giraffe 𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘬, Hawley's the one with the ruminant 𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘩.

"...he just wants Hyde-Smith out because she’s such a devoted pusher of Trump’s agenda, especially her support for the Big Ugly Billionaire Blowie Bill."

If this was all I knew about Scott Colom, it would be enough.

It would not be a personal hardship to me if lots of Democrats came to the struggle with revenge in mind. We are losing irreplaceable things and things of great value that will be difficult to replace and I am pretty angry about it...

Kick the shiny football? Hell, I say run right past it, leap over the defensive line and take the throw for a trick six. Yeah, I know that's not how things work, but I see no reason to be pessimistic here.

It's unlikely all these dream flips will come to pass; perennial party pooper Nate Silver will chime in shortly to say exactly zero of them will. But what we will succeed at is forcing Republican money and attention to divert to places they never expected to do any real work. Oh but their money is unlimited, what with the billionaires+ on their side? I hear you. I don't think they are hurting for money. But they are sure hurting for talent. Elon Musk may crop dust the map with his cash, but he can't resist also shoving his face in front of people as he does it. And for every dollar Musk spends, his face costs them another vote. Ditto for any other tech bro who thinks their stock portfolio is a measure of public likability.

Also, a lot of GOP success hinges on people being uninformed and apathetic. That's not a high bar to reach in "uncompetitive" states. But as soon as the whole country is looking competitive, and the more billions of dollars and ads start swirling in dusty conservative towns like Bumblefuck and greater metropolitan Devil's Asshole, the more we increase the possibility that it's the conservatives who will tune out. I'm under no illusion that we can save their souls here. But we can drain their energy and break the machine in a way that shows money, fear and hatred are no longer a sure bet and maybe more people are ready to actively decide the future of the country for themselves.

I've cleaned out the bathtub drain, freed the stuck drain auger from said bathtub drain without breaking anything, recaulked the kitchen sink, replaced all the charging cables around the house, non commented here, and emptied the dishwasher.

I do believe it is lunchtime!

Damn! Well done! You can have the afternoon off.

That pencil neck Tom Cotton was being bruited about as a possible Presidential candidate, for about a hot minute. No longer I think. No room at the table for him, although he's gone all in on MAGA.

EyeQueue's avatar

"being bruited about" is an expression I don't hear near enough. Good on you!

He's too geeky for the GOP base. They like fratboys.

What's the official term for someone who's essentially an incel but only sad they can't sexually harass a woman?

Because you are a creepy piece of shit with no power or relevance outside of lazy media circles?

He thinks that's amusing.

Seriously, who is the demographic for this garbage?

Bradthe🤖's avatar

Sadly, a Democrat I personally know. He just loves Bill Maher, and refuses to listen to any explanation I try to give him about Bill. He also refused to read teh Wonkette article I offered him:

He’s definitely one of those “Don’t try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!” people.

Police were called on a New York Times reporter while she was attempting to cover a fundraiser featuring House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Tracey Tully arrived Friday morning at the Hawk Pointe Golf Club in New Jersey, where Johnson was helping raise money for Thomas Kean Jr. as the congressman fights to hold onto his swing-district seat in November.

The Times reports that Kean spokesman Harrison Neely blocked Tully at the door, telling her the fundraiser was private and the media was not welcome.

But Fox News reporter Liz Elkind was invited inside, along with a Pennsylvania television reporter, according to the report.

Tully stayed in her car outside the club, hoping to catch Kean or Johnson on their way out. While she waited, a Washington Township police sergeant arrived after someone called and reported Tully as a trespasser.

Sergeant Dallas Overko responded to the scene and appeared surprised to discover that the alleged trespasser was a reporter waiting in her car.

“I didn’t know it was just a nice little reporter waiting for an interview,” Overko told Tully.

Will this stop the New York Times from endlessly kissing Republican ass?

Nope...

lol

I'm just curious about the thought process: "I really need to get the voters on my side. I need someone to excite the voters. Is Mike Johnson available?"

'The kids want more Mike Johnson!"

I'll say! Although I admit the comparison with Lauren Boebert's Christmas card with her and her kids brandishing automatic weapons popped into my head.

And re: "Real Photo Postcards"

My partner found an entire little photo album full of them (there are about 85 or a bit more) at Goodwill a few years ago and he bought the whole thing for $5.99.

Some of these date back to the early 1900s. We have some historical ones from Cuba, and areas of the UK, and others.

I sold one on eBay for $12.99. It was of a demo baseball game between the soldiers on the USS Somethingorother against Cuban players at Guantanamo Bay.

I'm always so touched that someone, somewhere, over a century ago, loved their cat enough to take its photograph.

Point of order from a math guy: 586 is more than enough people to get an accurate and precise statistic. The question would be whether the sample is truly randomly chosen, and that's a question about the method of choosing.

Rest assured that Republicans will use every possible dirty trick to hold on to control of the House, Senate, state legislatures and governors.
