AIPAC spent millions trying to scare voters into “moderation” and accidentally elected the most unapologetically progressive option on the ballot.

That’s not influence. That’s a live demo of how out of touch dark money is with actual voters.

When your attack ads convince people you’re right about the problem but wrong about the solution, you didn’t lose the race. You taught the class.

Yay! I voted for Analilia here in NJ-11 and we are thrilled with the outcome. Some interesting hyper-local political fallout, too. Our town council endorsed the county Democratic party machine candidate (there were 13 names on the ballot!) and now they're taking some real heat from the townspeople for failing to read the room and meet the moment. This is no time for centrist bullshit.

>>>But according to the Times of Israel what actually angered the deep-pocketed group was Malinowski hinting that he might support conditions on aid to Israel

Where is AIPAC getting their money?

Mostly from rich American individuals, and a few corporations. There are probably small donors too, I'd guess.

I’m in the International Fellowship of Christians & Jews to combat antisemitism and stand up for my Jewish brothers and sisters. AIPAC is pretty shady, as they will support the occasional Democrat, but a regular person cannot just join AIPAC. It’s a high-dollar only group, with vague goals outside of, yes, the most hawkish position on behalf of US/Israel. I say this again, as an ardent supporter of Israel. I’ve never looked into J Street.

NPR Morning Edition: "The Israeli Cabinet on Sunday approved a series of sweeping measures for the West Bank. One measure would make it easier for the government and Jewish settlers to purchase real estate there for future Israeli settlement. Israel is also taking more control over two ancient religious sites in Palestinian areas, stripping planning powers from the Palestinian Authority. Israeli Cabinet Minister and West Bank settler Bezalel Smotrich visited a Palestinian garbage dump to promote the new moves. He spoke to settler media outlet Channel 7. He says these new measures kill the idea of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel, the two-state solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. The United Nations secretary-general called to reverse the moves. Former Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami said Israel is doing everything but annexing in name, while U.S. officials are focused on Iran and Gaza. But so long as they do not annex legally and say, OK, this is ours, Trump doesn't see any reason to intervene."" https://www.npr.org/2026/02/10/nx-s1-5707522/israel-passes-measure-to-make-purchasing-real-estate-from-palestinians-easier

Ravel and Gershwin were mutual admirers...Very similar harmonic language. I adore this piece

I've never been able to wrap my brain around the idea that a foreign-funded, foreign-minded lobbying group is allowed to register here in the US, one whose entire purpose is to get the US to support a foreign government and fight their enemies and is allowed to openly lobby Congress and interfere in political elections. I don't care what country it is...

pstokk's avatar

Not foreign funded. It's an American group, funded by Americans, according to them, and according to the DoJ, one of whose entities decides when lobbying groups are 'foreign agents'. AIPAC is not considered a foreign agent by that entity.

I believe AIPAC considers that it is a group of Americans lobbying for support for Israel (whatever the current government is?, all policies of the current government?, unclear) and funding US politicians to the same end, rather than lobbying for all of that on behalf of the government of Israel or any other foreign entities, or with non-American funding. It's an important distinction.

As a comparison, there is an umbrella group of organizations lobbying the US government to support Ukraine the ACU. It is not registered as a foreign agent either, that I can see.

If there were a group of Chinese-Americans lobbying the US government to support Chinese policy or interests, for example access to US tech or support for the less-than-peaceful absorption of Taiwan to the PRC, and they were also pouring money into elections, I wonder how that would go.

I’m with you 💯.

It shouldn’t be legal.

And corporations shouldn’t be treated like people; Citizens United should be reversed.

But that would take fixing the Supreme Court.

I’d love to live to see the day when the complete bullshit if the Roberts court is overturned, returning American to a country that is progressing in the world and not trying to return to the “good old days” when women couldn’t vote and people could be property. Which is the endgame for our present crop of Republicans.
