I think a lot of these are bits and a lot are people who are paid to troll - to make it seek like their garbage beliefs represent the majority.

Peterborough-Kawartha also has the distinction of being the place where I spent my first 18 years of life (if you could call being in Peterborough in the late 70's/early 80's 'living'). Got a scholarship to University of Waterloo and NEVER went back (except when the Ottawa bus stopped there).

I was glad to leave. Back then it was INCREDIBLY homophobic and as a young bi cross-dresser I couldn't wait to leave. If not for 2 young lady friends of mine to whom I 'confessed' (separately) my proclivities I would probably still be in Peterborough, albeit in a pine box six feet down.

Hey, asshole; that's the sign for Peterborough, NH. If you're going to disparage a town at least get the signage correct.

Sad to see Andrew, that this small bit of Canadiana was subsumed by breaking news from south of the border today./

I live in Peterborough. New Hampshire. That’s the welcome sign for our town. Not Peterborough Ontario’s. They may be a welcoming place, but I suspect they don’t have a grammatically incorrect welcome sign.

Justin Trudeau better follow Old Handsome Joe's example, for everyone's sake (also electoral pact with the NDP)

As sad as I am about Joe leaving the race, I was in the mood for something uplifting. Tuned into Independence Day just in time to hear Bill Pullman's big speech. I needed that.

Cue the idiot MAGAts who insist that Kamala is not even a legal citizen because her parents were not born in the US and it doesn't count that she was born here because reasons.

The way Biden was treated is shameful.

I despair.

The billionaires have beaten the voters.

And now I want to add: He beat them right back. They aimed at Harris. Biden took the bullet.

Fuck those fuckers.

I wonder why it won't share. 🤔

Just an aside - I'm pretty sure that Peterborough sign is from New Hampshire. My aunt lived there and unless Ontario has the same sign, it's the same one I passed all the time when going to visit her.

Someone downstream said as much.

The candidate who won almost all of the votes in the primary has dropped out, ceding to the demands of unelected media executives.

So now the media executives will be on-board with Harris, right?

...

Hold on, I am hearing reports that exactly zero media executives are willing to support Harris, because their opposition to Biden had absolutely nothing to do with his age (executives are old too) and everything to do with the fact that he was the Democratic nominee who might impose slightly higher taxes than the Republicans.

All chants of "Biden is old!" are switching to "Harris has a birth certificate and has sent emails!"

It has nothing to do with taxes. Bashing Democrats increases revenues. Always has.

“Biden old” came out of a Trump SuperPac – there was reporting on that yesterday

NOW Bakari Sellers, bless him, is reminding people that Donald Trump is 78 and we don’t know if he could make it through 4 whole years

THAT said, let’s all remind ourselves that when Hillary Clinton was nominated, a whole bunch of THESE SAME DUDES were all like

“I’ll vote for any woman; I just won’t vote for THAT woman”

They lied then, they’re lying now, whatever they say

I believe today is that perfect day, not too hot and dry, not too wet and cool, to mow the lawns. Might let all the cats outside for this, Alice in a carrier, and the rest free to ramble.

I picture him hitting his desk early tomorrow and saying, “I’m just going to do all the things that need to be done that can’t be blamed on Kamala, because I will have been responsible for them. Bring it.”

Also, there are two identical bills that have been introduced over and over and over for decades, in some version or other, HR82 and S597, to repeal the WEP and GPO. HR82 has 322 co-sponsors and 597 has 60 senators signed off on it, and the original sponsor has just started the process to get it out of committee (members of which have their own pet bills on this topic, and are clearly just planning on sitting on this until the clock runs out). They had a committee meeting on it which was stunningly bad to watch. Three of the four invited `experts’ opposed, and the fourth was inarticulate and useless. The whole topic was railroaded out the door.

Repeal was one of the planks in the Biden campaign, and I am wondering if he would like to see that wrapped up before he leaves. I imagine him signing that one with a flourish.

Acronyms are an enemy of communication. I have no idea what "repeal the WEP and GPO" means.

The Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset are pieces of legislation that were passed about forty years ago, IIRC--if I recall correctly, that is--by legislators who simultaneously excepted themselves from the consequences. People who have qualified for Social Security, but also earned pensions through non-covered employment, can have their Social Security reduced by up to $600 a month. There have been bills proposed almost constantly since then to try to repeal this, and this is the closest that it's come to passing.

Poor communication. It has so many enemies, and so little appreciation.

Steve Daines is saying that Biden should resign the presidency in favor of Kamala. That might not look good to many people, but she would then be running as an incumbent. Advantage? Mebbe...
