The car companies complained during the Obamacare debate that it was hard to compete with foreign companies. The money the US companies' spent on current and retired employees' health care could be directed to R&D in foreign companies.

The AMA, the hospital lobby and the nurse's associations were very prominent and vocal supporters of the Affordable Care Act. Medical professionals backed Obamacare by overwhelming majorities, and they made no secret of it.
