It's really hard to imagine that anyone could think this is a wise management decision: Starting January 1, staffers will no longer be able to bank vacation — because they won't automatically earn or be entitled to any vacation, sick days or floating holidays.
FWIW, back when I was a capitalist middle-management hack, I sometimes had to try to order sick people to go fucking home and not infect the rest of us. It turns out, you cannot force someone to go home just because they're sicker than shit.
Our board changed its policy for sick days a few years back- we used to get 20 a year, could bank them for our entire career, yadda, yadda. This meant that if you ended up having to go for surgery, or broke your foot playing dodgeball (not me, someone else), you would be covered. Then they changed it to 11 (wtf?) days a year, can't be banked, and if your principal suspects you're not really sick (because teachers LOVE taking the 2 hours it takes to prepare for a supply teacher), after 5 days off sick, NON-consecutive, they can demand a dr's note. Yeah, right, because a) when you have the flu the best thing to do is drive to the drs and sit in a waiting room for an hour or more, then spend 25 or 30 bucks for a note, then turn around and spend what little is left of your precious day off RESTING, which is what you should have been doing all day anyway, and b) what the board really needs is teachers deciding that it isn't worth all that fuss, and then dragging their sorry asses into work and spreading the contagion around the staff and student population. In the H1N1 outbreak, me and half my homeroom came down with it. We need a sane sick day policy in this stupid western capitalist system that acknowledges that sick people should stay home and get better. /tl;dr, rant over.
What next? Expecting to be paid, just for showing up and working? Why am I reminded of the old joke that ends "Row faster! The Captain wants to go water skiing!"
THERE IS NO SPOON

Between Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil, you have to worry about Oprah's health.
Hey, he said that even though he said it it did not reflect his or the company's views.
