When you come to an intersection where the traffic lights have lost power, you are supposed to treat it as a 4-way stop. I am continually struck by our collective inability to grieve during this time. My best friend's mother died in April. We saw them for the first time right before Christmas when we brought them homebrew beer and we ate Thai takeout at a local playground. Another friend lost his best friend over the summer. One of my colleagues, my institutional memory, died in October. I haven't been to any funerals. I haven't hugged the bereaved. How do you grieve when you can't gather, when you can't hold each other?
Which means he will never be erased from history. People far into the future will be talking about him. I suppose that was the point of his candidacy all along.
