"Here is a book by a dude who was born on second base complaining how he was only held back by the ground rule. Don't forget to vote for my boy, who doesn't believe in rules."

Cedar Park is the Lilly whitest part of the metro Austin area. It's filled with lots of transplanted Republicans. I'm sure they were happy that the Canadian anchor baby was in town.

Hey Señor Estúpido, in 1964 both the House and Senate were majority Democrat and more Democrats than Republicans voted in favor of the CRA. The split that actually occurred was Northern/Southern in each party, not red/blue. You also fail to mention how the GOP's presidential candidate for 1964 voted against it and how a good many of those Southern Dems, AKA Dixiecrats, abandoned the Democratic Party to become either independent or Republican, fulfilling LBJ's concern that the vote would lose the south for the Dems for years to come.

<em>"At least one black person already meets Rafael Cruz’s standards for education: Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board whose book Please Stop Helping Us has become a favorite of conservatives. Pastor Raf said he was planning to “buy 15 to 20 copies of that book and hand it out to some black leaders to read.” In particular, Raf approves of Riley’s innovative take on the evils of the minimum wage."</em>

...do you know who else wrote a book(several actually): <strong>Fidel Castro</strong>

Maybe I should buy one and give it to him while smugly telling him he doesn't know what the fukk he is talking about?!

Please, please, please keep talking, Mr. Senator Ted Cruz's Dad. Talk some more about the The Blacks and the The Womens. Oh, and if you have a rant handy about immigrant children, how the word "uppity" doesn't really mean anything anymore, or Personhood laws, please talk them out loud somewhere with teevee coverage also, too, please.

Of course, not only does the "Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act" trope require absolute ignorance of everything that happened since to support the false conclusion those propagating it wish, it's also a lie in its own right.

It's particularly and unavoidably a lie that a "Republican Senate" did anything to advance the civil rights act. For all eight years of the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, the Senate was controlled by Democrats. It was the Democratic Senate leader who orchestrated the breaking of the filibuster. On every vote in both chambers, more Democrats than Republicans voted Aye.

It's true that a higher percentage of Republicans voted Aye, but party alignment was the weakest predictor of vote position on that bill - Southernness was the strongest, 100% of Southern Republicans and 93% of Southern Democrats voted against - and Liberal/Conservative was the second strongest, and it will surprise nobody here that the more liberal the congresscritter, the more likely to vote Aye.
