The folks at the Cryptic Corporation, I.E. The Residents, had their hand in the mix of the Pee Wee's Playhouse theme too. IF you're unfamiliar with The Residents google "God in three persons" or any other of the other wonderful videos out there of their performances. You'll thank me later.
Leadership is not rank and telling people what to do. Leadership is showing a way forward and helping others get further. Leadership is giving to others.
Sometimes you have to pull rank, sure, but it should be very very rare.
If you are good at it, people will follow you. It's not really a skill that can be taught. The military tries, but even there I'm not sure they're great at it.
If you are kind and give feedback and help others and teach and do things that others follow but didn't want to initiate and so on, you can lead. It's not easy. It's fucking scary, frankly. You fuck up and oh dear, that is an unfortunate situation.
So, this is a new one for me. Woke up too damn early, and discovered I have no water pressure in my apartment. I tried to check online, but all I could find was a Facebook post about a water main break four years ago. That post had a handful of comments from the last ten minutes or so, from people who didn't seem to notice it was from 2019.
โWillis has blocked off much of August for her team to work remotely, asking judges not to schedule trials or in-person hearings from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14.โ
Oh oh, I know what I wanted to tell you. I had a phone call that I answered today. It was from wonkette personage "bobbert"
Now I've known him for a while. He is a solid chap. We even hung around at the Maui Ocean Center one time. We go to baseball and stuff.
When I saw it was him calling I broke my Gen X habit and actually answered my cell phone. He's f'in lovely. We had a great chat and he cheered me up no end.
Of the six people in our office, four were born in the third week of August. I think this year we're just going to go out for a celebratory lunch every day.
I'm up to nearly thirty now. These are high end engineers who want to know what I'm doing next because they want to follow me.
Yeah this is a humblebrag, sure, but fucking hell, it makes me cry because it wasn't just a job. People really liked working with me and believe in me still.
My severance is gonna be "Look, we have cooked up a totally bullshit claim of 'insubordination' (I sent some supposedly discourteous emails) so that you're not eligible for unemployment because why should we pay for that after 13 years of 10-hour days?"
Not even joking. The difference between Silicon Valley and an arts nonprofit.
Last night I non-commented about how I lost power just moments before hitting the sack, this morning I awoke to find all power back on. Crisis averted, nothing to see here.
Day 1 on Medicare dawns. Nice discussion way downthread on Medicare options, recommended read. Be careful out there, your initial choice of an Advantage plan can lock you in (in most states).
Shoulder hurts after yesterday's chores (long-running bout with impingement etc), but gotta finish up the porch trim today. Motrin and Tylenol to the rescue. Have Meloxicam, but that just doesn't seem to work for me.
Looking forward to a birthday month of indictments for PAB and as many of his flunkies as they can round up.
I recognize that advantage plans are right for some people, but a not insignificant number of us prefer not to tie ourselves into a plan that requires you to see only their in-network doctors, requires referrals to see specialists, etc. Plus we can travel anywhere in the country without worry; many advantage plans donโt have providers in all areas of the country.
Yes, you will pay more than if you have an advantage plan, but any doctor who accepts Medicare (almost all of them) will see provide care for you without complications. I have personally benefited from the freedom skipping the advantage plans provides.
Everyoneโs situation is different, but I think itโs important to mention to those who may be turning 65 that a lot of folks choose not to sign up for an advantage plan, and are very happy about that choice.
Hey I resemble this remark. Signing up is on my to-do list.. I've got a couple months but they'll go fast. My mom's advantage plan seemed decent but I'm leery of them generally speaking.
Some advantage plans are fine; ms.tek is on one and she is quite happy with it, even thru her recent second bout with cancer.
Some advantage plans are a total scam. Shop carefully. Especially if you are in most states, where you can't go to a supplemental if you choose an advantage.

I'm gonna shut up in a minute.
On leadership.

It's worth it though. I like it for the teaching.
Also too, I think leaders don't ask their teams to do anything they haven't demonstrated they will do themselves. Trite but true.
So, this is a new one for me. Woke up too damn early, and discovered I have no water pressure in my apartment. All right, I guess we're not going to see anything until next Monday. I can dig it.
What have you heard or read to prompt that?
โWillis has blocked off much of August for her team to work remotely, asking judges not to schedule trials or in-person hearings from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14.โ
As seen in some little mommyblog somewhere..
Shit. Indictmas #3 is delayed?
I had my party all planned out, also too! HOW IS THIS EVEN FAIR??!??!?

Leave your August birthday or any change to your name in the comments to be added to the list!
Heyo! See you at the end of the month. ๐
People borned in August are the best
I may have a slight bias. Maybe
Of the six people in our office, four were born in the third week of August. I think this year we're just going to go out for a celebratory lunch every day.
That's just science.
Bias shmias, you are correct.
People whose parents had holiday sex, LOL!
Mom was preggo 17 times.
My 'rents were bunnehs, man
Finally, the weather cooled down and everybody got snuggly.
Let it snow let it snow let it snow
I'm up to nearly thirty now. These are high end engineers who want to know what I'm doing next because they want to follow me.

That ... that's fucking touching.
Just shows what terrible judges of character most people are.

Are you stuck with โgardening leaveโ or some sort of non-compete agreement?
My severance is immense. I just gotta do two weeks and then I'm heading to Europe to see fam.
I'm fine. I'm just really upset that I won't work with these people at this company.
I do have a reputation for stealing people when I find a new company though.
Enjoy your break!
It's not really stealing if others want to work with you.
When I started stealing people from the previous company the CTO would say "say hi to gav for me" because they knew it was me.
Now I've got 180 engineers to choose from.
It will be one reason why you get your next gig: demonstrated ability to retain staff because people like to work with you.
The worst time was when someone showed me his "say hi to gav" text message, so I said "gimme the fucking phone" and wrote a reply as me
I shouldn't have done that.
That guy was a dick though.
You were respected and people liked working with you.

There was a bit of a minor contretemps earlier about best female vocalists of the recent era.
Everyone was right.
I said Beth Gibbons but either people thought I was stupid or didn't know.

This is the first color object I've seen in the comments since the move to Substack.
Morning.
Last night I non-commented about how I lost power just moments before hitting the sack, this morning I awoke to find all power back on. Crisis averted, nothing to see here.
Maybe it was all a dream.
I use a CPAP. That would mean a boring night for me. I wouldn't sleep a bit.

Scrolled back 6 hours; didnโt see anything.

I'm sure you're right but I have heard so many horror stories about advantage plans not paying and fighting and weaseling out of of basic coverage.
Yep.
So I made dinner yesterday and decided, because why not, to have grog as the beverage for the meal:
1 ounce rum (I used Gosling's Black Seal)
4 ounces water
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup, or to taste.
Refreshing.
Gosling's is a great choice
I thought so. Way better than Bacardi blanco.
and keeps scurvy at bay! its medicinal really
Damned right.
Who needs war dolphins, when you have this?

She has amazing control on the way up as well. That's an adjusted breaststroke, which is perfect for ascent.
I thought I was hot shit when I did maybe 80ft at the edge of Molokini. And I had fins.
Did see a shark though.
I can't imagine doing that. Amazing.
