Look at photos of sister marches in Ohio from 1/21. There are solid progressives in the Democratic congressional delegation we send to D.C. (though gerrymandering keeps that delegation small). LeBron James. And the good people at http://www.crisohio.org, an organization I support in Columbus.
There are lots of good people here in Ohio. It's not like we're that barbaric shithole Indiana, at the very least.
It's my go-to "all is wrong with the world" attitude talking. And yet, being surrounded by people who voted for "Le Grande Orange" by a 2-1 margin, plus my anxiety and depression of that event warranting a renewed Xanax prescription obtained only yesterday, doesn't help make me feel all that confident.
But please do know that I honestly believe there are many very good people in my state. I just wish a few more of them would make themselves known to me where I live.

Well, that may be their view of the matter, but the only view on the matter which matters is that of the law and the court enforcing it, and I can assure these two morons that the court does not recognize the Bible as law, and recognizes as law the criminal rules that are going to see them put behind bars, hopefully for the rest of their sorry lives. Oh, and by the way, in prison, the inmates have their own rules, and boy do they HATE child molesters.
"Oh! The Holy Bible! Of COURSE I'll abandon the state and federal constitution and every civilly enacted law on the books and rely on this error-riddled work of fiction from western Asia!" Said no judge ever.
Actually there were safety deficiencies, most notably "we only counted on 5 watertight compartments getting punctured instead of 6" plus "not enough lifeboats"
The Titanic taught us many, many engineering and safety lessons we benefit from today.
I know you know, but I know we all need reminders. I didn't doubt you knew about all the great people, but in our dark moments, when our negative emotions are strong, a friendly reminder to not lose hope can help. I was a drunken, sullen, miserable sack of shit for a week straight after the tragic events of 11/9, but the strength of others, much more vulnerable than me, inspired me to refocus on the fight ahead.
