Thanks for the information! I have no horse in this race, really. I live near the Great Lakes, and there's all sorts of states and countries that want our water. Which they will not get, hopefully. We're only allowed to water every other day, and I live 15 miles from 20% of all the fresh water on the earth.

I told my sister if you're so worried about water, then why did you plant non-native plants that need a shit ton of water? I made her a plan of what would have been a nice, water saving and retaining back yard...but noooooo. Had to have a mimosa tree and an African Sumac. And Lantanas.

Any way, it's nice to hear both sides! P.S. Living in Stockton, CA is NOTHING to brag about, LOL!

There weren't CDs when I got my record. 8tracks came out 10 years later.

Haha, thanks for the good natured reply. I get my back up at my former cohorts! Are you a landscape architect? It's so beautiful up near the Great Lakes, especially Michigan/Upper Peninsula. Water is definitely going to be a major issue in the upcoming months. We're having a pretty cool fall temperature-wise and even had, so far, a pretty cool summer (Sept and Oct can be beasts though). Hopefully we'll get some decent rain!

I've taken a few classes in it. I can do simple plans for people, but never took a hard scaping class(rocks, stones, ponds.)because math is involved, LOL! My first advice and simplest advice is always to plant at least some native plants, trees, and shrubs, because they evolved to handle your local growing conditions. Big water savings right there, also too, after the first growing season. The first season in the ground you may have to help them with additional watering, but after that you don't have to worry about it. And you don't have to fertilse them, ever.

It is really pretty around here in the fall. I like to drive up to Door County, WI..it's a bit touristy but not obnoxiously so. And the leaf colors are to die for. And you can take a ferry over to Washington Island, it's about 45 minutes. There are still some dirt roads there.

The UP is gorgeous(both sides of it) and pretty sparsely populated. They have moose and squirrel(and bobcats, foxes, bears and wolves.). And porcupines! There's a ferry up there you can take to Isle Royale, which is a big island, where scientists famously did some landmark predator/prey studies with wolves and mooses. It's still pretty wild up there!

We could sure use some rain here, too!

I just finished a script that I set in the UP, and spent lots of time online looking up pictures and info. It's so wild--almost like it must have been like in the 18th or 19th century, I imagine. Michigan is an absolutely beautiful state, and people just don't realize it. I've set other scripts there, too. I've been to Detroit and Ann Arbor but haven't had a chance to really see the whole state. Here in CA we also have some wild areas, even here in L.A.! We have our very own special neighbor in Griffith Park (which is just up the street) https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Oh cool! You live in or near Hollywood, where I used to live. I lived near Whitley and Hollywood Blvd, on Whitley, about a block and a half north of the Blvd. I really loved it there, even though it was freaking HOT in the Summer. I loved going up to Griffith Park, because on a hot day, it was a little cooler up there. It was a nice bit of nature in the middle of the city. When I lived there, the sign hadn't been restored yet, and it said "Hullyw od." Bluejay Way was also way cool, definitely a Lover's Lane type of place, it was definitely magical at night. I worked at a small diner called Nick's, or Nick's Place, right by the Capitol Records building on Vine .

Congrats on the new neighbor! We have a few working their way into northern IL, also too. I carry mace with me when I walk in the woods alone now, but mostly because I worry about the two legged type of predator more than the four legged ones. Or I borrow my neighbor's German Shepard!

We were practically neighbors! We live up Bronson Canyon. It's always at least 10 degrees cooler up in the park! I don't remember Nick's, but there used to be a great Thai resto catty-corner from the Capitol Records building, on Yucca. You literally wouldn't recognize the area now. In the last year or so they've put up blocks of huge mixed-use buildings and hotels, it's crazy!

His one minute hollandaise(I think it was his) is pretty simple, to his credit. Some of the stuff that he makes look so simple isn't, though.

I'll have to remember that.."the frowning of a lifetime." That's really good! It's a good phrase for one level below "stink-eye." Sorry you lost Sunshine. I've had animals that have been gone for decades, and when I think about them, they still make me smile.

I didn't make up the "frowning of a lifetime." It was from the Simpsons when Mr Burns stole Grandma Bouvier from Grandpa Abe Simpson and that was how Grandpa was going to punish Mr Burns (it was ineffectual. )

Neat! I've been up to Bronson a couple of times..it's really nice up there! So many cool little cottages(well, they used to be there)and big huge places around there. Same up in Laurel Canyon, but I'm talking 1978 here. All those little places are probably gone. I would like to go back there someday and see what it all looks like now. I had lots of fun there! There were so many really great clubs to go to. Is Barney's Beanery still there?

Oh, GW Carver still existed, he was just the property of some cracker who took credit for his idea.
