No Labels staffing draws on the dumbest and weakest of right wing nobodies. It uses the Heritage Foundation model of providing handouts to unemployables in the hope that someday, the little boys will find work for Republican politicians.

As a Minnesotan in Phillips's district who voted for him (he flipped the district for the first time since 1958, credit where credit is due) he threw away a safe seat for this?

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Gonna look pretty bad for him when he gets beat by the write-in vote for Biden...

Enbastet's avatar

And,of course, No Labels isn't asking him.

They will never run anyone because getting stomped will turn off the grift nozzle, but even they aren't interested in someone whose rally attendance is zero.

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Interesting point. I had not considered the No Labels hadn't picked a tandem yet because not picking one allows the a broader fundraising base.

I assumed it was because they were incompetent assholes.

I keep looking at that top picture and you can't convince me that isn't DeSantis just combing his hair differently

i wonder who got in his ear and explained he was telling everyone he was a trumpist republican on the no labels ticket - nancy maybe, she may be retired but she still scary

I suspect leadership in the House had a very sincere conversation with him about what his life in Congress would be like if he did not get with the program. Office in a sub-basement, trapped on the fisheries committee forever and any attempt at legislation he makes would be murdered in its crib. No chance of ever getting an earmark passed. The House Democrats and Democratic leadership understands discipline.

Of course if he behaves himself, life could be so much better...

"Now if only we could just disabuse him of the notion that the universe is begging him to be part of the solution. "

He could easily prove that he sincerely wants to prevent "Return Of TFG Part II: The Armageddon!"

-shut the fuck up about Joe Biden (the old thing about "if you can't say anything nice STFU!)

-literally empty every red cent from his "campaign coffer" and send it to BIDEN / HARRIS. I am sure that $75.11 donation would be greatly appreciated and might even earn him a thank you e-mail.

-finally FUCK THE FUCK OFF, DEAN, YOU FUCKING FUCK!

Sincerity has never been more easily demonstrated Dean.

". . . that $75.11 donation would be greatly appreciated and might even earn him a thank you e-mail. . . . " my experience is that every donation seems to earn you another beg for more.

This is a lot like my pledge not to pitch for the White Sox if I don't land a spot in the Cubs rotation this spring.

Reading the post and 'grundle" appears. Must be an Evan post!

But...you gotta catch 'em all. No exceptions.

Seems like a whole bunch of people somehow believe that Biden could unilaterally decide to e.g. cut off funding to Israel. IMHO Congress wouldn't allow it even if it were the right thing to do.

So, staying away from the voting booth to "punish" him is IMVVHO a decision based on a false premise.

insert_something_creative's avatar

A lot of people on the left also don't seem to grok that PAB would be infinitely worse on the war in Gaza and literally every-fucking-else. There is no doubt PAB would let Israel flatten Gaza and the West Bank (and Russia to Ukraine) with zero hesitation. Not voting for Biden may make them feel moral or whatever, but it doesn't mean their dreams and policy positions magically come true.

Demme Epstein Fatale's avatar

"Punishing" Biden by not voting for him, is a vote for TFG.

Plain and simple.

(How did that "making a statement" thing in 2016 workout?)

Don't make me hate you, (again).

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Abstaining from the process will not get your point across.

insert_something_creative's avatar

100% this and nor would it lead to their preferred outcomes.

This is ultimately one of my major qualms with the uber-left. While I take the concept of the Horseshoe Effect with a grain of salt, one of the commonalities they do seem to share - to a certain degree - is the desire for a Chief Executive with borderline imperial power.

Phillips is a Libertarian backed by techbro money.

tehbaddr's avatar

EEEEWWWWW!!!11!1!!! I bet he smells funny!

counterlife's avatar

"Libertarian backed by techbro money" = stupid.

These guys all think that being rich makes them smart despite the fact they all have lint for brains. Libertarian - they don't even know the meaning of the word.

DogParent's avatar

Pretty sure they define Libertarian as "I like weed AND money, and want to make sure the government doesn't raise my taxes to do things for poor people."

Is there no one close to Dean Phillips who loves him enough to say "stop"?

Dick Fritter's avatar

Maybe someone should reach to him on Tinder?

RefillingThorsBeer's avatar

I hear he and RFK Jr. are pretty tight.... but not quite close enough to attend the birthday bash.

FukuiSanYesOta's avatar

Maybe next time just start all sentences with “I’d be a clown-boning batshit if I said the following words.” Or end all sentences with, “I’m Dean Phillips, and do I approve this message? Perhaps I don’t.”

yes, this

Just fuck off Dean. Nobody really cares. You're the Tim Pawlenty of Evan Bayhs.

insert_something_creative's avatar

Dean held an event somewhere recently (in NH, I think?) where literally zero (0) people showed up. You'd think he'd take the hint.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

Should have picked Warren- gone all in.

FukuiSanYesOta's avatar

I get the feeling they don't like each other. I have no reason to say that; it's a gut feeling.

Now a Harris/Warren ticket ...

bluePNWcats's avatar

I've wanted to see Warren in the big show for quite a while now, but I get the feeling that she's where she needs to be, doing the people's work.

Demme Epstein Fatale's avatar

Ever since she flat out lied about Buttigieg's "wine cave" fundraiser in one of the debates, I have eyed her with suspicion.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

Doesn't matter, that ticket would have won. She could have let Liz take the Banksters on and help with the eventual Covid response.

insolenthedgehog's avatar

While I understand not wanting to remove a Democrat from a mauve state from the Senate, I still think Sherrod Brown would have been a good choice.
