According to Wikicrapia, he was able to mortgage inherited property for $250K in 1983 to invest in the biz.
That's about $816K in today's dollars. Y'know, what we all have under our sofa cushions.

It has been theorized that the Soviet empire finally imploded from the weight of its lies, the regime and it's subjects were worn down by the necessity of swallowing and regurgitating the obviously not true. But then, it did take seven decades of relentless mendacity to collapse that house of cards, which is a rather pallid solace. Who can wait that long?

Attendants would walk up and down the aisles with buckets of water so that people could cool their blistering hands for three seconds, then resume applauding.
