Good grief, it’s like we’ve stepped through the looking glass into some dystopian North Korea-meets-Vegas cabaret where every GOP grandstander is jostling for the front row to blow kisses at the bronze Trump idol.

A federal holiday for the man whose entire brand is gold toilets and third-rate steaks? Sure, let’s shove Flag Day out of the way so we can all throw parades for Baby Carrot Caesar.

The Mt. Rushmore thing kills me. Eight days into term two and they’re ready to chisel his jowls into granite alongside Lincoln? Abe’s spirit is going to start rattling the monument loose just to get away.

And that Army ad with “47”? Subtlety is officially dead. Next up: the Space Force launches Operation MAGAstar and renames the Moon “Mar-a-LunA.”

Meanwhile, Burgum’s performance on Fox was straight out of the Kim Jong Un School of Public Worship. I half expected him to tearfully read a poem titled “Ode to the Spray-Tanned Sun.”

Every one of these bills is less about governing and more about sucking up enough to maybe score an ambassadorship to Liechtenstein.

But please, keep “Dear Leader Watch” coming. It’s either laugh or cry — and I’m all out of tissues.

As for that constitutional amendment, they're delusional to think that Captain Demento McCheeseburger will still be alive in 2028.

Oh, I think he'll be alive -- longevity runs in his family, and clearly he has some genetic protection from his staggeringly shttty diet+inactivity. What he *won't* be is lucid: He has been showing signs of the onset of dementia for a few years now, and those of us who took care of a close relative with it recognize certain behaviors (not so much the forgetting, which is common to all aging brains, but the disinhibition, the moodiness, the sundowning).

I'm delighted that scump probably has 10 or more years of increasing suffering ahead, as dementia robs him of his independence, his comprehension, control of his bowels, his ability to swallow ... (I half-hate that the GOP's 40-year assault on my finances and my health -- staunch opposition to M4A = I lacked treatment when I desperately needed it -- has turned me into a selectively vengeful person, but, hey, I'm human, and I can't withstand infinite assaults.)

I would drag my naked balls over three miles of rusty razor blades just to sniff the tire-tracks of the truck that takes Rebecca's dirty panties to the laundry.

Everything is all right, the struggle is finished. I have won the victory over myself. I love Big Mother.

I would be ok with Trump Day if it was celebrated by burning effigies.

As we see now, Trump is a Russian asset. Why? Compromat. The Steele Dossier.

How do we know T lied about Moscow? Steve Bannon told us. In one of the Woodward books, Bannon says: 'I'm amazed how he can look you in the eye and bald faced lie to you. He says the stuff about Moscow can't be true because he wasn't there that night. But I know he was.'

Respectful suggestion for Wonkette: there are many, many ways to point out what a can of worms this weirdo is. But with him blaming Ukraine for its being invaded, and many thousands

of them being killed by indiscriminate bombing, maybe the biggest picture is not inside the USA. OK, maybe RFK shouldn't take over Health and Trump Junior shouldn't take over nuclear safety...but the sell out of the West, of NATO, of democracy, should have first call on limited resources.

The Stormy Daniels stuff was hot for a while, but a story is one thing, video is another. And Putin probably has it.

Claudia Tenney didn't see a conflict between the orange blob's birthday and Flag Day because she's too ignorant to know when/what Flag Day is.

It's so hard being a part of the House Republican Caucus now. For four years, all they had to do was scream, "Hunter Biden's penis!", and they'd have every reporter in Washington jamming a mic or a camera in their faces.

Now, they're just forgotten. Irrelevant. Elon's kid gets more press than they do.

It's kind of sad.

Well, the other thing noticeable about that recruitment video is the caucasity of it until the last few seconds with the DS after all the action sequences ended.

Burgum surrendered his dignity when he offered to give $20 gift cards to anyone who gave $1 to his presidential campaign, so that he could meet the criteria for participation in those Republican debates.

I wondered how someone whose business became so successful could be such a jerk (theoretically, you v to be reasonably bright and connected to reality to start and/or run a biz), so I looked him up. According to Wikicrapia, he was able to mortgage inherited property for $250K in 1983 to invest in the biz.

That's about $816K in today's dollars. Y'know, what we all have under our sofa cushions.

I am sick almost to fkkkking death of these faux-bootstraps, so-called self-made people. (And don't get me started on how literally no one is self-made.)

I think we as a nation will survive this eye-popping amt of corruption, stupidity, and hypocrisy -- but there will be a lot of casualties along the way, and I'm fearful that the no. will be high.

Every day that the flood of shameless atrocities, the landslide of asininity, the universal distortion of all truth and justice continues chips another few days off my life span, not to mention all the more immediate fatalities directly caused by the maleficent incompetence of this regime. It has been theorized that the Soviet empire finally imploded from the weight of its lies, the regime and it's subjects were worn down by the necessity of swallowing and regurgitating the obviously not true. But then, it did take seven decades of relentless mendacity to collapse that house of cards, which is a rather pallid solace. Who can wait that long?

Saw this really interesting blog post about flattery inflation in the Roman empire linked to by Henry Farrell on blue sky. It got turned into an academic paper too, but here's a link to the post:

It's a really useful way to understand the actions of sycophants in autocracies.

Story goes that in the '30s in the Soviet Union, whenever Stalin spoke before what passed for a parliament, the applause would go on for literal hours because no one dared to stop. Attendants would walk up and down the aisles with buckets of water so that people could cool their blistering hands for three seconds, then resume applauding.

I actually agree with Anna Paulina Luna that we should put Trump on Mt. Rushmore!

Of course, she's talking about carving his likeness in the stone, and I'm thinking more of duct tape and superglue in the middle of Washington's forehead....
