Wouldn't be surprised if Netanyahu has personally ordered aid workers (and press) to be targeted to discourage other aid workers from coming. Bibi is a genocidal maniac whose goal is the removal of ALL Palestinians from Israel, by any means. Starvation will eliminate Palestinians more quickly and more cheaply than military action and it also gives him enough wiggle room to claim it's just an "unavoidable tragedy" out of his control.
"Israel is better than the way this war is being waged. It is better than blocking food and medicine to civilians. It is better than killing aid workers who had coordinated their movements with the Israel Defense Forces."
And yet, here we are.
It's 4 in the morning I had to stop from laughing out loud at that statement. You sure about that, chief?
It isn't that they were western deaths- there were Palestinian members of that aide team as well as westerners, and other westerners have died in this thing before. It was that they were aide workers, clearly marked aide workers, that had coordinated with the government before hand, in an area that said government controls. Can't brush this one off as wrong place wrong time, so to speak.
They sure can't they were targeted by the right-wing hate mongers, just like the ones we have here. I hope the secular Israelis rise up and throw Bibi in jail.
Horrific. It’s all tragic and horrific. Hamas killing 1200 civilians at a music festival was needless and horrific. Israel bombing Gaza to rubble is needless and horrific. Killing humanitarian workers simply trying to bring food to starving people is so far beyond the pale that it makes you question whether there is any hope for us. I don’t know enough to get into the weeds on Middle East politics. But Palestinians deserve to live free of violence. Israelis deserve to live free of violence. The things people do to each other is just hopelessly sad. If you live a life free of violence and oppression, and you have food and shelter and safety and friends and family, consider yourself very, very lucky.
It was this killing, with the death of an Australian aid worker, that finally pushed the Australian Prime Minister to condemn Israel. Nice to know one Australian life is worth more than thousands of dead Gazan children. I'm SO fucking disgusted.
As Wonkette says, better late than never, and these courageous aid workers may save even more lives with their deaths than they did with their work. But the whole thing is foul.
We are allied with a country that is approaching international pariah status, if it's not there already. I as an American don't like that. At all.
If Biden keeps so much as one bullet from Bibi, the Republicans will howl about "betrayal" and "stabbing in the back" from now until November. Too fucking bad. Biden needs to take the political hit and get genuinely tough with Israel. He needs to stop worrying about a bunch of people who are so stupid that they can't tell the difference between an ally that regularly commits atrocities, and one that is defending itself against unprovoked aggression from a powerful neighbor.
Maybe, but I don't want to see this become some kind of coldblooded political calculation like, I'll lose x percent of independents if I do this vs. y percent of the base if I do that. That's Henry Kissinger shit.
Lucian Truscott IV has a gut-wrenching analysis of the weapon that was probably used against the WCK aid workers. It seems to be a terrorist-assasinating missile that is a derivative of a Hellfire missile that, horribly, kills without even breaking out the car windows. (See the top photo.) These things are precision weapons… some of America’s precious best. It would seem impossible to use these things by accident, much less make three successive mistakes on three successive vehicles Damn. Just damn.
Yes that absolutely explains why those vehicles weren't blown apart. These were targeted assassinations and the IDF must have had permission from the highest levels to target INTERNATIONAL aid workers. It's clear that Netenyahu does not give a flying fuck about what the world thinks.
No aid workers = no aid to the starving population of Gaza = genocide of the population and easy occupation of Gaza.
Bonus for the investment that will flood into this mass graveyard from the likes of Jared Kushner and his fellow vultures who will be all too happy to snap up huge portions of this suddenly empty real estate and build luxury housing/slum housing depending on the desirability of the area.
Israel is either profoundly incompetent or is doing this shit on purpose. No more weapons for Israel until Bibi steps down. Through his actions, he has guaranteed generations of future violence against Israel.
The IDF has consistently targeted aid vehicles, hospitals and food aid distribution sites. All, every one, have been absolutely known by the IDF. This is purposeful terror.
Remember W. C. Fields' suggestion that we put the leaders of warring factions in a stadium with socks filled with horse manure and let them fight it out?
There was an ad back in the 60s similar to that, where the middle-aged to elderly leaders of the two contending factions go mano-a-mano to decide the damn thing instead of sending young men (back then) to their deaths.
President Biden, unlike the three previous presidents, had the courage to finally say, enough is enough, and get us the hell out of the 20+ year quagmire in Afghanistan. Many thousands died needlessly, and violently, and the US essentially just set trillions of dollars on fire to accomplish fuck all.
My hope is he will be able to summon the same courage to face the predictable blowback from the same assholes who wanted to stay in Afghanistan forever, and stand up to Netanyahu. Based on Netanyahu's decisions to bomb Damascus, ensuring a wider war in the Middle East, and his complete failure to protect civilians, hospitals, refugee camps, and humanitarian workers, it is unlawful for the US to continue to provide funding and weapons to Israel. US support must screech to a halt. Biden's legacy and his reelection are at risk if he continues to insist his support for Israel is "unconditional".
Biden had no choice about Afghanistan; it was trump who cut that deal. Biden will take the heat for the withdrawal failing to achieve perfection, but that's his job.
I hope he does, and soon. Afghanistan is a good analogy--Biden long supported our war there, but as time passed and he realized what a mess it was, he pulled out at his first opportunity. (Sadly, he got no credit for it from a country that begged presidents to do this)
I'm hoping this incident sparks enough outcry that he can make a decisive break with Netanyahu, and cut us loose from this madness, and establish a different relationship with Israel that supports when they're in the right but opposes them when they're not. It does neither party any good to make our support "unconditional".
Election-wise, it's complicated. How many people will vote against Biden for stopping aid to Israel vs vote for him? And how much are those defense contracts worth? Morally it's a no-brainer. Stop arming Netanyahu.
It's been a six month journey of growing awareness about the utter evil of Netanyahu and his genocidal government here at Wonkette, and I applaud that, but baby steps do not save baby lives. Going forward, please remember that every time J-Street Joe strokes his chin thoughtfully, or wrinkles his brow a millimeter whilst balancing the interests of General Dynamics with obeying long-settled international laws against mass murder and starvation of captive populations, hundreds of innocent people die.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that it's Congress, not President Joseph R. Biden, who has the authority to take action in this matter.
We didn't impeach Trump for fucking with foreign aid appropriations to benefit his reelection campaign, we impeached Trump for fucking with foreign aid appropriations.
As a USAer who marched against W's fucking war in Iraq, I definitely refuse to condemn the Israeli people. My country has done dreadful things, and I did what I could to stop it. Decent Israelis are also doing what they can. Hopefully that includes stopping this madness.
The Israeli people are in a similar, but far worse situation, as us. A desperate madman actually has his hands on the levers of power, responsible for tens of thousands of deaths. Their institutions have failed them, and the only thing that can actually do anything about this are the Israeli people exercising their democratic rights to be heard.
The Israeli people are not to blame, but they are also the only ones who can stop this. Just like only Americans can make our own government stop when it does the wrong thing.
I love him so much. I contribute to WCK regularly, but I want to send a billion dollars I don't have to support their investigative efforts, literally whatever they may be
Especially since they may well end up going up against those same Black Ops types whom Harvey Weinstein used to try to destroy people trying to hold him accountable for sexual harassment -- Mossad, was it?
PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT JARED KUSHNER IS BIBI NETANYAHU'S GODSON
Wouldn't be surprised if Netanyahu has personally ordered aid workers (and press) to be targeted to discourage other aid workers from coming. 🎯It's not like he is even trying to hide it Bibi has got to go.
I'm pretty sure Russia is being sweet to Israel, or has been.
Israel is said to buy their oil .
If you're gonna blame all Israelis for what their government does, how are you any better than those that blame all Palestinians for what Hamas does?
Enjoy your laugh though.
Thank you, I quite did. Not so much your strawman tho. Feel free not to try again.
It isn't that they were western deaths- there were Palestinian members of that aide team as well as westerners, and other westerners have died in this thing before. The USS Liberty and the death of 34 Seamen in 1967 was just another big oops, too.
The war must stop. Netanyahu must go. In either order, as soon as humanly possible.
Thank you for reporting on this nightmare so clearly.
We are allied with a country that is approaching international pariah status, if it's not there already. I as an American don't like that. At all.

Republicans aren't gonna vote for Biden anyway, so who cares what they howl about?
Maybe, but I don't want to see this become some kind of coldblooded political calculation like, I'll lose x percent of independents if I do this vs. y percent of the base if I do that. That's Henry Kissinger shit.

Ever so much this^^^
we see that at the UN regularly
But what’s in it for him? Scare away all aid workers because he thinks that way no one will see the genocide he’s working up to?
I believe the term is "ethnic cleansing".
Working up to? Bibi's genocide is WELL underway.
*sobs*
Palestinian children don't count as "children."
Israel is either profoundly incompetent or is doing this shit on purpose. No more weapons for Israel until Bibi steps down. Through his actions, he has guaranteed generations of future violence against Israel.
Both apply, tbh.
It's the second thing...
The IDF has consistently targeted aid vehicles, hospitals and food aid distribution sites. All, every one, have been absolutely known by the IDF. This is purposeful terror.
Hamas recruiter of the year.
Make no mistake – Hamas will also come after those who provided the weapons that Israel has used to slaughter innocent Palestinians.
Fuck Hamas. They and Bibi need each other to retain power.
Remember W. C. Fields' suggestion that we put the leaders of warring factions in a stadium with socks filled with horse manure and let them fight it out?

"J street Joe"? Really?
He has taken $5.7 million in pro-Israel money.
https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/summary?cycle=All&ind=Q05&recipdetail=S
His campaign has taken money from donors during an election year.
Shocked face for shocking development
And how much has Congress taken from Israel?
Everyone seems to be forgetting that it's Congress, not President Joseph R. Biden, who has the authority to take action in this matter.

Which Bibi was trying to curtail through disenfrachising the courts, just before this whole tragedy occurred. Their protests were inspiring.
It's the indecent Israeli people -- Likud voters -- who are just as bad as Republicans in the US. Good people need to prevail in both countries.
Yep. But I live in a glass house. Lotta assholes here.
The Israeli people are not to blame, but they are also the only ones who can stop this. Just like only Americans can make our own government stop when it does the wrong thing.
and the beat goes on
I might cry. This is just so nightmarish.
*Hugs,* I hear you.
Do. Not. Fuck. With. José. Andrés.
