Not when the NFL has the documents, the indictment, and his admission that he did it right there. In order for him to be guilty of lying, he would have to admit he lied when he entered the pre-trial intervention program, and basically deny the facts right in front of him. His lawyer was there, and would have done everything short of gagging him had he done that.

<em>"At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community.”</em>

Just another variation of "but der Fuhrer was a marvelous dancer!"

Let's see if I can make my point without trippng the alarm on the comment queue.

This was probably the best move the Vikings could have made - he's not suspended, just placed on the "exempt/inactive" list which allows him to draw his full salary. He is just prevented from going to team facilities or having contact with them.

Could they have given him his unconditional release? Sure. But you know some team would be willing to absorb the PR fiasco because he's an every-down back. (Hello, Oakland!)

And if he still won't behave, stone him.

I should have qualified it as "best move <b>at this point</b>" since the horse was not only out of the barn, but in the next county over. Thanks.

Yeah, but the NFLPA has to make the argument. And considering the second suspension is for allegedly lying about what happened to the Commissioner (a point that no one had ever brought up any time prior, considering that the Ravens representatives <em>in the room at the same time he was meeting with Goddell</em> didn't seem to think his story was any different than the story he'd told them a couple days earlier), they do have a point. The CBA doesn't give the Commissioner the power to increase a suspension just because he mucked it up the first time. And no one is buying the "he lied to the NFL!" argument because it would have been beyond stupid to do so because it would only make the punishment worse.

I had the same reaction, except I didn't literally scream. How is making the suspension longer adding a second punishment? And he got rather indignant about the court of public opinion, until she mentioned that if it wasn't for public opinion Rice probably wouldn't have faced consequences in the first place.

A look around inside Adrian's head: "Only a bad person would abuse a child. I am not a bad person. Therefore I did not abuse my child."

Frankly, you are correct. At the end of the day.

He needs support to look forward to watching something? WTF? Is there an annual Meaningless Drivel Award for spinmeisters?
