There's a lot of "overreacting" going around lately, and I'm scared shitless we're going to scare moderates away from voting for Biden, and lose the election because of it.

Democrats, particularly younger Dems, have a bad habit of thinking everyone supports us and our ideas, and will react kindly to us telling them what films they can watch, what idiotic speakers they can /can't, hear on college campuses, what words they can use, etc... That's how we get called "the intolerant Left." I feel like we're falling into the GOP's slimy hands when we try to tell other people how to think or what words they can say.

I saw a black Nascar driver saying he was trying to get Nascar to ban Confederate flags from Nascar. I HATE that flag, and wish it had been banned after the Civil War, but it wasn't, so now rednecks feel it's an attack on their "heritage" if you don't want them to fly their dumb flag. The majority of people who go to NASCAR are rednecks, so they're going to be freaking the fuck out that they can't fly their idiot flag. That encourages them to go vote for Trump.

I hate Republicans with a burning passion, but Democrats have a very bad habit of gaining an inch, then demanding that everyone go along with their desire for another 5 feet, and then we get our asses handed to us. This country USED to be a left wing country in the 1960s and 1970s, and then it took a hard right turn in the 1980s, and that hasn't really changed. We're quickly turning into a far right country, and that scares the shit out of me. I want to live my last 20 years in a non-insane country.

I don't mean to sound like I'm lecturing you, but I'm 60 years old, and there's an old saying that "Democrats manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory." We are SOOOOO fucking close to getting rid of Trump, and I just want everyone to chill out, and accept victory. If we DON'T get rid of him, we're not going to come back as a free country and it doesn't matter what the color of your skin is, what words you use, etc... We'll ALL be looking back on Donald Trump's first term as a day at the beach.

Again, I'm just sharing my thoughts/opinions with you, and you're free to think I'm wrong.

For god's sake change the name!!! Real savvy to give this movement an unnecessarily provocative name and roll your eyes when people don't respond well. If you have to explain (in some detail) that it's not what it sounds like and what it REALLY is, is not that at all, except maybe sorta (though it's complicated), it's a bad name. Good cripes, progressives! Could we try a little more diplomatic approach? Talk about self-defeating!

Exactly. Also re-organizing society into collective was tried and it sucked. WTF? Also these young people with their let’s change everything stuff speak in impenetrable jargon and come across as simpletons. Who would want to put these weird amateurs in charge of everything?

Exactly! The mentality inside police departments and the police “fraternity“ 🙄 is so hostile and borderline paranoid. I agree with the idea of having social worker type teams deal with certain kinds of problems. (Lots of cities have had that for 10 years already.) But if you have fewer police doing fewer things but the ones you have left are as crazy as they are now, you’re still going to have them killing unarmed civilians.

Oh, saw a chart on Twitter showing how many hours of training to become a cop in different countries. The top 2 it was 4500 hours. Canada 2100, US 675 hours.

What cult is that?? Holy crap. I never thought of tacky snobs turning that into a cult…

THANK YOU! This illustrates something I’ve been trying to communicate to people on Twitter. So many of the defund keeners are naïve middle class people who think @) there are functional social programs that b) can somehow prevent crime, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think that’s what they mean when they invoke “housing“ in the context of needing less police. That civil protection thing sounds really good. If it were properly funded. So now I know what to say to the defund keeners. “Sure set up a parallel police-like thing for non-crime problems, but it’s going to be like the foster care system.“

They could’ve said Cut the Police. And the explanation is one word: budgets. Or the more straightforward policy sounding: Police Reform.

Get away! That is so cool. And useful.

Yes! Demilitarize the Police! Yum! And absolutely about ICE. I initially thought that slogan was a bit much then I was reminded by something I read that they’re not border patrol and they’re not immigration, so why even are they? And they’ve only existed for what like 12 years?

They won't listen to people like Barack Obama or Jim Clyburn, who actually know how to get shit done.

Yes, exactly. They're a pure "deportation force" and they've been militarized and corrupted to the point where their "deportations" are beginning to resemble those "deportations" back in the 1940s.

Let's rename Reagan National Airport The Obama National Airport.

nobody's calling for eliminating police departments and calling it a day.

Except for the absolutist Trumpians lying about how the left is doing so.

“Defund the police means work on community problems”. Well that goal would be helped immeasurably by not having messaging like something put together by university students. Also working on community problems can mean absolutely anything. So many things that involve money to alleviate poverty become bureaucratic boondoggles. AND what needs to happen with the police is the way policing and policing education are done need to be completely redesigned. WTF? This is not that hard. The police are taught to be hyper aggressive.
