Deleted Comments Of The Day: 500-Vet March Was Awesome Fun, Were You There?

Our story about the organizers of the "Million" Vet March distancing themselves from last Sunday's teabagger rally in Washington DC -- they were shocked, SHOCKED! that it turned "political" -- drew a rather unhappy comment from a participant who just wants to clear up a few things! "Nospinplease" writes:

This is ridiculous. People who are posting, including the author, are talking about something they know nothing about to gain their own cheap political points. I was there. People were terrific and they were military not Tea Party though I heard there were some there. They were very peaceful and the rangers and police allowed them to take down the barricades -- there was no resistance and no discord. In fact, they left the WWII memorial without any guards that I could see.

We're a bit mystified as to how this is supposed to disprove anything that was in our post -- the organizers complained that what they'd intended to be an "apolitical" march was "hijack[ed]...for political gain," and Nospinplease seems to be describing a political demonstration, complete with tea partiers. But thanks for confirming that, contrary to the Fox News portrayal, the WWII Memorial was not swarming with cops waiting to beat up on vets.

Nospinplease continues:

Until the WH... when the riot police tore barricades from peoples' hands as they were dropping them off -- riot police pushed, shoved, and kicked them. Prior to that, the police were great and people were having their photos taken with the police.

Funny, why would police at the White House fence be a little on edge?

There apparently was some loon with a confederate flag and the Freedom Watch speaker went off the rails.

Oh, right. That would be Larry "Mr. President, put down the Koran!" Klayman. The guy who's been promising to head a coup so that Barack Obama can be removed from office. Can't imagine why the cops were less than friendly to people advancing on them carrying large sections of metal fencing.

However, this event was great. Watching the veterans wheeled into the WWII memorials was terrific. Seeing them take the barricades to the WH on their wheelchairs was great! Palin and Cruz were booed and applauded but they kept their messages short. Taking down those barricades from sometimes nasty, nasty police at some of the memorials was one of the more enjoyable experiences.

OK, so there were political speeches at the political rally, but it would be wrong to make political comments about it! And the cops were great, but they were nasty. Gotcha.

We also heard again from "maureenmartin15," the writer of "Aryan Street," the blog that will rescue America from the Mud People just as soon as it gets more than 30 readers. (Shevisited a while back to explain that the Confederate flag "is not a slavery flag. It is a succession [sic] flag.") She dropped by that old edition of Dear Shit-Fer-Brains the other day to explain to someone that no way would she have supported Romney:

She seems nice! She also left a link to a blog post she wrote about us; she very delicately edited out a racial slur because although she's a racist, she's also a Lady. And no, despite what she thinks she learned through Google, we're not a spam site. See you again in 4 months, "maureenmartin15!"

Finally, our own FakaktaSouth gets her first Dear Shit-Fer-Brains note, from "withoutvice," a commenter who wanted to correct her recent piece on Ben Carson at the Values Voter Summit, who called Obamacare "the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery." We just misunderstood Carson, it turns out:

I dont think you guys truly understand what Dr Carson is saying here. I dont think he was saying this to dispute the other horrible things that happened out of the last 100 years (WWII, 9/11, Slavery, etc). What most people don't realize is that this is exactly how government becomes too powerful. If any of you lived in Soviet Russia or other tyrannical state or have read history, you will see that this is exactly how it starts. No we aren't going down now but a century from now, we could indeed all be slaves to a over controlling regime. The IRS and NRA are all already using their instruments of power as we speak.

See, we were under the mistaken impression that Soviet Russia got started with a violent revolution and then the tightening of control by an increasingly radicalized, paranoid inner circle. But it turns out that people who have read history know that the USSR actually started with subsidies to private insurance companies. We really should try reading history some time! Also, we would really like to know what the hell "withoutvice" thinks the NRA is.

Other than governmental control, If you just wan to debate how Obama Care is a threat, here are the facts. Most people don't even know what the hell it is. It will not be FREE as most people think it would and would basically tell doctors who to accept and how much to get paid for certain visits. People pay out of pocket and whatever else is needed will be picked up by the working class. Regardless of the dangers of Obama care, why don't you look at the ways in which Ben Carson is advocating better health care reform at a cheaper rate than what Obama is doing.

A system of payment for medical treatment that tells doctors they will only be paid a certain amount for treatment? Why, that sounds like an oppressive HMO, or an insurance company or something! What madness! We also like the notion that people think the ACA will be free of charge -- we haven't met those people, but maybe they exist. Mostly, we hear from people who are certain that every insurance rate hike since 2008 was mandated by Obamacare, because insurance was just so ridiculously affordable before the ACA.

As for what Ben Carson actually proposes for health care, that's pretty laughable:  

“Here’s my solution. When a person is born, give them a birth certificate, an electronic medical record and a health savings account [HSA] to which money can be contributed pre-tax from the time you’re born to the time you die.

Yep, that will definitely solve everything. After all, most people get sick in proportion to their income -- that's just Science. And the poor will be fine, since they can get charities to chip in to their accounts. In addition, Carson advocates a flat tax, so you know he's a serious thinker. He is also a fan of a completely made up quote in which Lenin supposedly said "Socialized medicine is the keystone to the arch of the Socialized State." So thank you, "withoutvice," for suggesting we check out Dr. Ben Carson more closely -- we learned a whole lot.
