You're forgetting the defining characteristic of religious nutbag outrage: they want <u>everybody else</u> to be subject to their rules. That's why a TV ad that suggests alternative rules, to other people, is intolerable.

The Taliban kill over it; fortunately the Xtian fundies (99.999% of the time) are content to clog the airways and intertubez with howls of butthurt protest. [Insert boilerplate re freedom <u>from</u> religion, etc.]

This. Trying to practice tolerance of the intolerant simply puts one at war with oneself, while doing nothing to promote a better world. It is showy martyrdom that does nothing to address the problem.
