Yes, I agree..."Chaplin" is a lot more entertaining. The scene where Charlie discovers his image as "The Little Tramp is brilliant...first is ridiculous memory, caught out by Anthony Hopkins, then the high-speed reality.

Then, equipped with the cane, out he goes, to mess up Mabel Normand's marriage to the big bruiser, and the director -- Hal Roach? -- being a titan of silent comedy, figures out what Charlie is doing and orders the other actors to react comically appropriately and accordingly. Sets up his whole career.
