I only ever had one client that actually gave a shit about application and server security. I won't say the name, but they were a "name" insurer that has a crop insurance division.

They designated a security team and those guys were motivated and attentive. And they did what I told them to -- lock all of us consultants out of the system within two hours after we completed the project and left. I expect they had no security issues after we left.

Yeah, I gave them a pass for running a business on code that looked like somebody's nephew wrote it after he read one chapter of a PHP book (he clearly missed functions, loops, and if/else), because they were smart enough to seek help when it started averaging 2-3 second load times. Security was apparently too hard, though.

Clients are almost always stupid. The difference lies in whether or not they care enough to learn from their mistakes and fix what's wrong before their whole business goes Tango Uniform.

I had a client engage us to write a performance report on their ecommerce website. The code was so wildly insecure I added a security section to the report and told them I am not a security expert, but here are five things you need to fix omg right now, and then you need to hire a security expert because this flaming pile of shit is going to be hacked before you even pay for this report (paraphrased, because I am a professional when not writing Wonkette comments). They were horribly offended, flounced off and hired a different company to work on their website.

A year later they asked for another performance review, and we found that (a) they had fixed two of the five things I'd recommended, and (b) they had been hacked six months prior and didn't know.

Losing to a woman -- a BLACK woman -- will be almost as awful for Kemp in an election he did everything he could to steal, as the person running said election, as going to prison.

Traitor didn't know about midterm elections until he became President.

Oh, yes -- that's clearly implied.

My big dumb Lab of years back, Paxil (he was a very effective antidepressant), made an entire shortbread disappear while I briefly stepped out of the kitchen.

YAY, Cyn!! You go, girl. The instructions from the registrar to the poll workers here about provisionals was "If in doubt, hand it out." Hope all the poll workers take that advice tomorrow. What with new voters not getting their cards in the mail, and what with the exact match law, I want every-damn-body to at least TRY to vote tomorrow, if they haven't already. God, I'm on pins & needles. Get a good night's sleep, sweetie, and thanks for all you do!

Actually, ActBlue was hosed by both campaigns. And the DNCC.

True dat. I also pointed out the security issues to the Voter Protection group when we had poll watcher training last month. The director told me that the party was working on it. So that this is brought out by Kemp two days before the election, when he also canceled the last debate and also too went down to Macon to suck up to Trump is the usual from the Georgia Tea Party. Even Nathan Deal was too through with them by the end of the last session.Earlier today, I hand delivered my "absentee" ballot and the ladies at the Dekalb County election office were so nice and cheerful! And tomorrow I am off to poll watch at o'damn early! The main issue in early voting has been people being denied provisional ballots. BECAUSE WE HAVE GOT THIS!! #BLUEWAVE

I know Brian Kemp. Not well, but I know him. I have friends who know him much better than I do. The consensus among them has been that Kemp's been doing "what he has to do" to win in Georgia, but that he's really an okay guy. The consensus has also been that he's incompetent, unqualified, and has never had to work hard at anything. So---an overall impression of "not a terrible person, but probably won't be much of a governor." Well, as of this weekend those same people I know have been truly shocked by how mean, sleazy and underhanded Lyin' Brian really is. There's a lot of contempt for Kemp right now in Georgia. I hope that enough white people who have not early voted for him will turn out tomorrow and vote for Stacey Abrams, instead. Fingers crossed. (And I am NOT one who has been shocked---I always did think he was an asshole.)
