So, I met Clay Travis 5 or 6 years ago. He was legitimately a very nice guy, gave me tips on my website and always asked about it when he came to our office. I have no idea if he turned into this gradually, if it was hiding in there, or if it's an act. But man, it's just so disappointing, because he's very nice in person.

I'll say it again: the debt ceiling is, on its face, unconstitutional, because the only purpose it serves is to periodically call into question the full faith and credit of the United States, which is a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The maximally cynical side of me says that's all they want to pass. They can do it without negotiating with Democrats, because budgeting can bypass the filibuster. They don't really care about the culture war stuff too much, because even when they lose those fights, that just means they can fundraise off them in the next election.

I'm pretty sure that that's Guy Fieri LIBELZ!!! Pretty much everything I've ever read is that he's a nice guy.

The ironic parts is that it's the primary thing that will cause they're already-a-minority-and-shrinking base to shrink further. Bold strategy, Cotton, to say the least.

I'm annoyed this isn't happening also too. If the American people were told the truth as many times as the RW lies go out, things would change. But Dems try to keep this stuff a secret. Yes, it's nice getting judge confirmed, but is have S & M in there fucking things up really that good an idea??

Is that why Ted Cruz was able to shut the gov't down a few years ago?

On trial, anyway. The courts move very slowly, but this is ridiculous.

That's not the same thing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another shut down. That happens tomorrow at midnight if the government isn't funded. They think it plays well with their base. The base that is convinced that government is to root of all problems.

The debt ceiling needs to be raised by 18 Oct. That's when, if it's not raised, the US stops paying its bills. At the same time about $10-$15T in wealth evaporates. Mostly from the GOP donor class. All that money that exists on paper will be worth pennies. Interest rates will skyrocket. We go into a near instant recession if not outright depression at the same time. The rest of the world that is tied to the dollar as their reserve currency will follow. Over time, a few months at most, 6-10M jobs will be lost here alone.

They won't allow it to happen if fir no other reason than their donor class won't allow it.
