they're trying to build another pipeline across BC, too: <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/cana..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ki...">http://www.cbc.ca/news/cana...

Lots of controversy over that one.

The Keystone (and the other pipelines they want to build to get the oil to world markets, (Kinder Morgan, BC) are a stupid idea. However, they appeal very much to Dear Leader slightly-to-the-right-of-Attila-the-Hun Stephen Harper. He never met an oil industry idea he didn't get down on his knees before and blow.

Pipelines hardly ever leak. Ask Kalamazoo about that. After 4 years of clean up they're almost done. I used to paddle this river.

Preventing this pipeline through America's heartland is like Obamacare for energy.

I was stopped a RR crossing last week and to relieve my boredom I counted the cars. There were 105 oil filled cars coming from the North Dakota oil fields. The crossing was smack in the middle of a suburb within a couple hundred feet of many homes. This train was moving fast and if any of those cars derailed a lot of people would get hurt. I honestly don't know which is the better solution but it seems when pipelines leak they leak a lot.

On a related note. Rails are so occupied with the North Dakota oil in the Midwest that the farmers are having a hard time getting their corn shipped out of state. Is oil edible?

I hope Mary Landrieu loses so hard, when she hits rock bottom, she bounces. Fuck her and fuck all the idiots who wasted one of the few working days they have left to try to get something done before the republicans turn the country into a smoking crater.

It might be because of the Rockies. Easier for oil to flow down the flat plains than bore through all that rock. Also, British Columbia is one of the commier parts of Canadialand (Alberta is Canadian Texas), and probably DOESN'T want their tar sands all over.
