I really hope you're right. What worries me is that in this post-Capitol Siege world, white racists might riot if Chauvin is convicted.

That (likely ‘roid-raging’) psychopaths are not only tolerated, but encouraged, in LE and the military is all you need to know to see It HAS Happened Here. So, you’re walking down the street and you see some guy murdering another guy - who you gonna call? The police? Oh, never mind...Traffic jam in Iraq brings out a cadre of US-hired mercenaries who gun down 17 civilians for no apparent reason. Who you gonna call? DoD? Oh, never mind...Delusional insurgents storm the US Capitol and, while you’re on the phone calling for help, some of your ‘protectors’ are holding open the door for the surgers, many of whom are vets. Who you gonna call? the police? the Army? Oh, never mind...Black folks - and white folks of limited means who, by choice or chance, live in the ‘hood- have understood this for generations. Maybe, with this trial, your average dystopia-denier will see that sadistic loons have no business looking after the public welfare in any capacity.

I think DC did a grudge murder based on his past working relationship with GF in some bar. This was his chance and he took it, counting on never being held responsible because he's a cop because pretty much anytime a cop kills a black person, it's deemed a justified and consequence-free action.

I don’t worry about getting pulled over because of my skin color-but I worry about a cop seeing my Semitic name and deciding that he doesn’t like it. I also worry that my Deaf son will get a beat down because the cop thinks he’s just pretending that he can’t hear.

I didn't even have to answer. The prosecutor took one look at my place of employment on my bio and said "are you an attorney?" and i was out of there like a flash. i would have been a conscientious juror, though, so his loss.

[unattractive but necessary is] how white Americans are conditioned to view police violence.

it hurts me to read, Stephen, because I know you're completely right

it hurts more because if I'm being completely honest, that phrase feels to ring "true" in my head at first listen...I'm conditioned just like you say and it pisses me off

it's twisted up in all the fucking "if only they would comply" justification for state-sanctioned homicide as we tsk tsk and shake our heads, blaming the victims, that inundates white discourse

I hate it and I want to destroy it

The fucking photo. The one where Chauvin is still kneeling, but has put his hands into his pockets.

The sheer look of nonchalance on his face, like ‘Yup, just here choking the actual life out of another one of these uppity fellas. Mondays, am I right?!?’.

Once someone is choked out to stop breathing it takes another minute or two to finish the job and kill them. If you let them go as soon as they go limp they will probably recover. It was murder, deliberate murder, and Chauvin and his 3 buddies were pretty confident they were doing nothing wrong, because, yes, the world has seen that video. If the Nuremberg defense holds then that puts the entire PD and the entire MN Police Academy right there next to Chauvin.

Unpopular fact her in Victoria, Oz. Jurors can ask questions, cleared by the Judge, but they can ask questions of witnesses. Can that happen in the US of A?

Him and the other 3 cops all clearly thought they were doing nothing wrong. It is clear on the video how casually they were acting in light of publicly murdering a man.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I feel like we’re screwed.

If Chauvin is exonerated, all hell will break loose, and we’ll all find out what happens when a “failure to communicate” occurs.

If Chavin is convicted and is sentenced to three years (or whatever) for committing murder, a lot of white people will go, “See, the system worked!” And they’ll retreat to their burrows, close their trap doors, and go back to their Netflix favorite.

I guess scenario two is better than scenario one, but it’s still worrisome.
