Sigh... oh Georgia (hanging head in shame)... so much to say...

The SO bill: It's beyond flawed. I am a huge advocate for abused children so this kills me. GA's laws regarding where SO's can live & work is very strict, with good reason for the most part. However, it is a blanket policy and does not take into account say for instance; an 18 year old who was told by his new girlfriend that she was 18 when she was actually almost 16 (parents pressed charges). This man is almost 40 years old was forced to move from his home because it was within 50 yards of a bus stop.

The bill regarding law enforcement was created with good intentions but is also flawed. An elderly woman in her 80's was killed by police when they busted through her door & she thought they were home invaders. It was awful.

Another GA bill that is sorely lacking in coverage is virtually identical to Arizona's anti-gay law that IS receiving due coverage. It's disgusting.

Footnote about Cherokee County: I bought my first home there, my cousin still lives in that county. It was a lovely place for the most part but as soon as my son was old enough for pre-school I sold my home & moved to Fulton. The schools here are so wealthy (extra-curriculars are largely funded by 6-7 figure income residents) they are equal or better than most private schools.

Again... apologies to all. We get a bad rep for crap like this but in all honesty the vast majority of us are not irrational... just our pathetic law makers who we are working hard to remove. Jason Carter 2016! P.S. Wonkette crush Lewis (D-Awesome) endorsed him this week & of course I'd be remiss if I didn't include Michelle Nunn 2016!

So true... believe it or not despite the well deserved bad press for GA we were one of the first states to jump on board. It's actually a great program but is heavily dependent upon the teachers & individual school boards for it to be successful. I'm beyond grateful that my son attends a well funded public school with highly qualified teachers. The curriculum & teachers are directly responsible for my son's success in his AP & college level courses (freshman - junior).

Me but I escaped to N. Fulton with my son so he would not be indoctrinated by derp when he started school.

P.S. also too Cherokees, RIP.

My money is on the students hailing from Jasper County or Floyd County... or possibly Forsyth County because their residents would be most likely to afford out of state tuition and also have a healthy dose of racism.

In other GA good news/bad news this week: First the bad news also too because who is really surprised, 3 GA "Patriots" plot against Federal government. The good news - they were turned in by a rational GA resident and busted by the FBI: <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.c..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/21/georgia-...">http://www.huffingtonpost.c...

Evidence shows child SO's are almost always repeat offenders. I have zero sympathy for their "troubles" after they serve out their sentences.

However, the way the current law is written - teenagers who have relations with one another or are stupid enough to send nekkid selfies to one another, or a drunk at an outdoor festival has to pee in the bushes are all treated as SO's exactly like habitual child predators.

Exactly! There is nothing benign about child pr0n. People don't just have it accidentally and not act on the sick impulses that led them to acquiring it. I'm also in favor of removing body parts on those who touch children... without anesthesia.

This is the sweet elderly lady who inspired the new law... RIP: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wik..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathryn_Johnston_sho...">http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

apologies for the wiki link but it was the easiest most comprehensive source with links.

I understand what you are saying but as a GA resident I can tell you that while the current law is deeply flawed this proposed law is even worse. They need to spend time amending the existing law that is far too broad instead of trying to blow it up. I appreciate Wonkette for covering it because no one else is paying close enough attention to it.

I was thinking it might be more about double jeopardy-- you've served your time, so why does the Government think it can restrict you? Of course, the wingnuts are all for restricting the <i>voting</i> rights of anyone convicted of spitting on the sidewalk.
