that didn't take chutzpah, that took her being the vice chair of the committee, a less senior senator couldn't have done that. I love kevin de leon, he's actually my rep in the state house, but here's what california will lose by replacing di fi ( I know an equally skilled and progressive senator from somewhere else will take her place, but kevin de leon won't get any of these assignments)

For those old enough to remember, Charlie Johns and Claude Kirk, from back in the (my) day. There are lots of others. George and Frank Smathers.

The wife and I already sent in our mail ballots. We went in with one philosophy: 51+ in the Senate, 218+ in the House. I like DeLeon, but Feinstein is as close to a lock as you can get, and if there is even a chance worth discussing that we could lose a seat, then that play is OUT. This is emergency, full-throttle, shitty politics now. As much as I would like to push CA further left and progressive, the #1 priority, the only reasonable option, at this point is to get (D) asses in House & Senate seats.

If we fuck this up, it's over.

Sure I'd like my Senator to agree with me on everything, but I'm better off with a Senator who agrees with me 75% of the time and has seniority over everything but the statues in the Rotunda.

The people criticizing Feinstein and saying if two Democrats are running, why not vote for the progressive? Maybe because there are more moderate Democrats than progressives. Besides, what most people commenting in these non-comments forget that this seat is for the the state of California. While obviously a senator votes on national issues, they also try to steer benefits to their state.

As Dok mentions, having a six term senator will get you more than having a freshman senator. I hope if we don't take the Senate this year, we will in 2020. If I lived in California I think I would get more from the six term senator when that happens.

On Medicare for All, this will not happen overnight. Most people have health insurance now, more would if every state took the Medicaid expansion and we upped the income for some subsidy. There are ways to gradually increase a Medicare type program that replaces private insurance, but people are going to resist any call for a 10% to 15% income tax increase it will take.

By demanding it all right now, it will never happen. But once a federal program is allowed to compete with private group/corporate policies, we may see companies switching to the cheaper, standardized benefits of Medicare, possibly adding a supplemental policy as a perk (basic Medicare is not great. It does not cover drugs and has no out of pocket cap, so your copay on that $100,000 cancer treatment will be $20,000). Then we will see companies paying for most of the Medicare for All, not taxpayers. But it will also be available to everyone else not covered by companies under an ACA subsidized program.

I, too, would like DeLeon and have been trying to decide. Your reasoning is sound. One of my sibs and I were discussing and we both came to the same conclusion. DeLeon is young and passionate and his turn will come. However, right now we need experienced hands on deck.

The House is supposed to start the money bills per the Constitution. That's why they start in the House.
