I lived in Royal Oak for 25 years. Helped to make it the "Cool City" that it is (as officially designated by Gov Granholm)...Left just at the right time when we sold our house in one day for more than I ever dreamed possible. More than 10 years ago.I ate at Inn Season many times. It appears to me that crime is so low now that they are hiring rookies, with little training, and trying to justify their salary...or something... I'll be contacting old friends, including police, to see WTF is going on...I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be.

Bob Jones is in SC. MI is not even close.A woman was "taping" and Royal Oak, just north of Detroit, is considered one of the most liberal places in MI.

First, I LOVE that this café paid for Myers' meal. Second, maybe he was looking at her suspiciously. Like, "Who are you, crazy white lady?" Eyebrow arched. Maybe she felt like he could see her soul, felt guilty, and called the cops to confess her transgressions? Maybe?

I may be wrong, but isn't a vegetarian restaurant kosher by definition?

Jacob Wohl doesn't have enough money to sue The Daily Beast for libel. I suppose he could set up a GoFundMe campaign, and the right-wing-nut-o-sphere would chip in, but otherwise, no way.

No, I fixed onto your mistake because your point is severely flawed and you couldn't even get the order right, either because of a brain freeze or you intended to obfuscate matters. For what it's worth, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assume the former. I only mentioned the latter to point out how you might come off if people were ascribing bad intentions to you.

But that you didn't get that right could indicate that you have also mixed up what I have been saying, and as such, that is a clear reason you might not understand what I've said

You are right that you may have not presented any credentials, but you do act like someone who does have them as you claim a place "within our own communities" - that sounds to like you are speaking for others - so I just figured you see yourself as a spokesperson with credentials.

But here's the thing - suppose that the world that you live in is one where you don't hear those slurs at all. Then what do you when kids don't understand something they've heard and ask you about it, and say the word? Do you immediately wash their mouth out with soap and tell them to go sit in the corner?Or do you say that it doesn't matter merely because it's a slur? How would that be helping any? So later on you hear them because you haven't explained what it means. How many times have you told kids not to say certain things but they go ahead and say them anyway. If you don't inform them as to the meaning of the words and their severity, how can you expect them to learn?

Or do you educate them as to what that slur means? And in doing so you mention that slur and explain why it's wrong. It seems to me that the more information you give people, the better.

THAT is what Pearson’s Grandmama was doing, for the benefit of the people who did not know what the slur meant. As I said before, I didn't know it until recently, and I'm sure others did not know perhaps until today. So that was education in action - nothing more, nothing less.

But you seem to be stuck on the simple fact that the words are bad, but if you don't explain why they are bad - and that requires saying the words, you are shirking any authority you claim to have as a member of your communities.

I know that your heart is in the right place, but to pick a fight with someone who is trying to help and explain does not help anyone.

As for your reputation, I know nothing about it, so that's not an issue. I know I'm relatively new here and may not (or may) have a reputation. But I don't particularly care as I am speaking my mind and being honest and forthright about things (when not making lame jokes like others here). If some people have problems, so be it.

Don't take things so hard and relax...

Mea culpa. Apparently, I'm the Joe Biden of non-commenters here. My intent was just to comment on the current meme of "(insert normal daily activity here) while black." But as you properly point out, these things have historical and serious consequences - and certainly in this case, isn't something to joke about. So thanks for reminding us all...
