Yeah, the "overheating" excuse sounds like it was cooked up by someone who doesn't understand much about digital hardware. This is roughly equivalent to "Sometimes my DVD player overheats and shows an entirely different movie".
The Diebold ATM at my bank has never given me more money than I requested. I do live in a predominately Democratic area, so maybe that's the problem.

According to Diebold this appears to be a new 'fault', the machines are adding spurious votes instead of discounting legitimate ones.
