What catches my attention is how much can change without Congress passing a new law at all. One office reinterprets a thirty-year-old statute, withdraws the old interpretation, and suddenly agencies that never thought of themselves as part of immigration enforcement may have a new role. Whatever one thinks of the policy, that is an enormous amount of consequence hiding inside the word “clarification.”
Bill Clinton courted the vote of so many groups--working class people, union members, women, People of Color, Gays & Lesbians (but not transgender people)--then stabbed us all in the back.
This is how insecure people demonstrate their imagined power. They're hoping the average American will turn against immigrants because of this. Jokes on them, the average American already did when they voted for Orange Boy.
No real coverage, either, of That Asshole in the White House's threat to some how ban imports if the Federal Reserve does not lower benchmark interest rates.
This one is "cut rates, or I kill the nation's economy." (To be precise, he threatens to somehow bar imports from nations with export more to the US than they import, which is most of them.)
Plus, you know, the idea that a president can extort the Fed. By law, the Fed adjusts the rates only to keep inflation around its 2.5 percent target and maximize domestic employment. (Lowering rates will encourage inflation.)
That asshole wants low rates to spur inflation to devalue all the debt he, billionaires and the US Treasury owes. He also wants this because he is dangerously ignorant and depraved. When an economy is doing well, rates rise to prevent overheating. So, the asshole-idiot wants what struggling economies use to spur activity, *except* when inflation is already high.
Blue States should refuse to send any federal tax withholding dollars to the IRS, because they will need that money to pay for food for the families the sociopaths are trying to starve to death.
