And the wingnut voters will keep voting for the wingnuts. Eternally failing to make the connection between politics and their way of life.

The low prices for you come at the cost of abysmal pay for workers and suppliers. Quit penny-pinching in retail, folks, and you might find yourself less in the position of sadness following you at every turn.

I worked IT in retail for about a decade, and was ready for the psych ward in the end. the most I worked was close to 70 hours a week on a pay that barely got me through the month. retail is extremely ugly on the inside. as you said those low prices come with a hefty price tag elsewhere.

When Romney, that tall, well-meaning American was running, I learned what his strategy for taking over companies and just, just 'benefiting' from them somehow. (Remember that man who said Romney took over his company and they had to build this scaffolding for new management to stand on for the ceremony? And then they had to train the new workers before being told to get lost?) Anyway, Mitt would spot a company, borrow all the purchase money, adding that loan to the debt burden of the company. Then he'd sit down with excellent accountants and figure the company's balance sheet. Unfortunately, the company usually had to be declared bankrupt and the assets sold off. Or reorganized with lowered costs or something. With no union, if there'd been a union before, I imagine.

It's a Hotpoint. Funny name for a refrigerator, huh.

Sounds like Dollar General has been asking for it for a while. I feel sorry for the workers. I have had my share of asshole bosses and managers and no ability to organize, so I sympathize.

If Christians actually followed the teachings of that Christ fella, it would be no problem.

i never thought of that. And you know, I always thought degrees Kelvin were cold degrees like outer space. But they're in the hot range, I noticed the other day. It could be both I suppose. Nobody asks my permission when they do these things!

Sears was fine before it was gutted by vulture capitalists. That is the difference between Sears and Amazon.

My point is that Amazon is the 21st Century version of Sears, unburdened by the huge expense of maintaining physical establishments. I have no beef with Sears. As a child I always looked forward to their mammoth Christmas catalogue. The first word I learned to spell was "toys" - so I could look it up in the index and then drool over the pages of them.

Good luck to them. My sister managed one of these stores and they gave her almost no budget for employee hours and expected her to work 56-70 hours a week to cover shifts for her $24k a year salary. After they gave her shit and threatened to demote her for having the audacity to want to use her leave to extend her time off after she had a kid, she used up her leave and quit. The area manager had to step in and cover the store and suddenly they could budget for more work hours for employees.

Sister has a much better job now, thankfully. But Dollar General is an awful company to work for.

Kelvin is basically Celsius (aka Centigrade) except shifted to start at zero. Like, nothing is colder than 0 Kelvin (–273.15°C).
