Remember the good old days, of, say, 2004, before we knew for an absolute fact that our government was torturing the hell out of detainees? All we had then were rumors and some photographs and maybe some videos and some blown whistles about some "bad apples" -- and a whole lot of denials from the Bush administration, who would never lie about anything, because "we don't torture."
You know what would never happen? If he was, for some strange and unknowable circumstances sent to the Hague and found guilty and locked up for the rest of his life, they wouldn't feed him up his ass like some kind of monstrous Medieval jailer.
"We know where the torture was done. It was done in the area around the facehole and the rectum and east, west, south, and north somewhat..."
That being the difference between "civilized" and "uncivilized" behavior. The line's pretty goddam bright.
The words evil and sadistic are used often when describing Rumsfeld and Cheney. I have to respectfully disagree. There's no joke here and I'll explain.
Rumsfeld is the perfect politician's assistant. He's the penultimate yes man who never takes a definitive position and never ever gives a straight answer. He's the guy you want if you need someone to implement a program that any normal human being wouldn't touch. He can't be a sadist because that would require feelings. He doesn't feel, he follows directives and happily directs others to do the same. He is the Eichman of our little scenario.
I believe Cheney, who probably directed this horror, is not evil. Cheney is a coward and evil is the unfortunate by-product of his fear. If you look at his history, he has always been a coward. He had more deferments than the fingers on one hand just to avoid a war he supported. While the President was out and about he was hunkered down in his bunker, afraid that the terrorists would get him. The man is afraid of his own shadow and is willing to sacrifice anything or anyone to relieve that fear. I truly believe that we have been brought down in the muck by a dedicated group of pussies who were so very afraid.
can't we just you know, get Rummy and Cheney and the others (that sadist, Yoo) and , oh, put them in a box and stand some guys wearing uniforms, white belts, sidearms and white helmets around them and try them? As...oh...war criminals?
That's interesting. I have not seen that before. The physical consequences described in the second paragraph are by no means unique to torture situations of course. Anyone who stands in one spot and never gets an opportunity to move around for 8-10 hours can tell you about them. But merely being on your feet all day, as Rummy claimed he was, isn't anything close to the same thing because being able to move around makes a world of difference.
The prolonged sleep denial was a far more cruel and inhumane practice. It is many times more painful and physically damaging.
Shameful discredited war criminal says what?

I was pondering the Josef Mengele foundation but now I just can't decide.
Nothing might be the smartest thing Rumsfeld ever said.

That's why Mistress never makes anyone stand still for more than 20 minutes, Rummy.
