And Brazilian farmers are slash and burn clearing land to grow them . . .

Dear America,

I write as your well-meaning next-door neighbour who has observed increasingly erratic behaviour in your elected father-figure. I realize that a good many of you no longer take much interest in your dad, ever since his political grandad back in the 1980s sold out the country to the faceless multinationals that tend to promote perpetual war for their own profit and I wonder if, maybe, that was somewhat the point. But I digress . . . I am merely a well-intentioned do-gooder who occasionally drops by next door to check on your father-figure. Forgive me for pointing out what is obvious to the rest of the lovely members of this neighbourhood, but he is rapidly declining into demented actions and statements. He no longer speaks, but simply slurs. And when he slurs--in both meanings--he slurs nonsense. And sometimes dangerous nonsense.

Forgive my intrusion in to your domestic matters, but I assure you that I and the rest of the neighbourhood of democratic nations are concerned and ask that you consider DOING SOMETHING about the insane situation.

Best regards,

Your northern neighbour who worries about you.

Trump once claimed you needed an ID to buy cereal. No Quisp without ID!

I honestly hope Trump just declares victory over China and lets me spend my last five years of work stacking money so I can live it up like Wayne Newton in retirement. But I know when I'm fucked and I would say this is one of those times.

How is he getting away with this blatantly obvious market manipulation?

Short of voting and mass protests, there's nothing we can do. I do believe that the Democrats in the House are doing their sincere best to, if not impeach him, then minimize his chances for reelection.

We're not voting because we're jaded and we don't believe that meaningful change can be effected (I say we because I was very antipolitical for years until 2015. I literally saw no point, although I've learned my lesson, and I voted for Hillary). And the worse things get and the more ridiculous, the more it entrenches their decision not to bother with politics.

Mass protests aren't going to happen because people are too comfortable. Maybe that will change if there's a big recession, but I doubt that would change anything.

The normal methods for removing someone unfit for power have, themselves, been corrupted. Leaving aside all the bullshit that got him elected, because it's too late for that. Article 25 can only be invoked by the cabinet and VP, and have you ever seen a bigger group of incompetent grifters? The Senate is hellish with McConnell in charge. Literally nothing good is happening there.

As far as larger scale reform, we could try Constitutional changes, but they a) have to ratified by 3/4s of the states. And b) there are two ways for that to happen. First is through both houses of Congress, which sure as hell ain't gonna happen. The second is by 2/3s of state legislatures calling for a constitutional convention. There are actually a bunch that currently are. The problem is, that those movements are founded by RWNJs with purposes like adding a balanced budget amendment, which would be disasterous. If a convention is called, there's no idea what could happen. It could even come out with a completely new Constitution (that's basically how we went from the Articles of Confederation to our current one). It's super chancy to rely on anything and, given the current Republican dominance in local politics, we'd probably get deeper into a dystopian hellscape.

So I'm biting my nails right now, waiting for time to pass. I'm gonna do what I can, but there sure as hell isn't much.

Honestly, right now, if the west coast attempted to secede (I'm in Washington) I'd wholeheartedly go for it. As long as it wasn't bullshit Cascadia.

(NB: I think all the facts are roughly correct, I welcome being corrected if I was wrong. Obviously I editorialized).

If all American companies obeyed Trump's dumbass "order" the world economy would collapse.

Me too! I buy all this food from the grocery store, fork over many Ameros to those greedy bastards, and you know what I have by the end of the week? NOTHING. And then I have to give them more money!

That's why Kudlow got hired. Cheeto needed someone who understood the stock market enough and was sleazy enough to show how insider trading works. They thought that Gary Cohn would be doing that but after he got the tax breaks he decided that going to jail was not a smart move so back to Wall Street as he actually had a career, unlike Larry.

Thanks, I was too lazy to go look it up. It's true I have more important things I could be doing, but I'm not so we'll just have to go with lazy.
