Trump voters gave the election to Trump.

This is not said often enough.

UK had to return the New Territories (most of Hong Kong's land area) according to treaty. By treaty, they did not have to return the islands or Kowloon (the end of the peninsula). They decided that the economies and the people of the N.T. and the core were too intertwined, that it would be too problematic to split them into two countries. Their options were 1) Return the New Territories only; B) Return it all; and III) Go to war with China to keep it all. In this case, there simply wasn't a right decision. If you want to blame them for accepting a 99-year treaty after getting part of it "in perpetuity" over 100 years ago, I suppose you can. But when you get right down to it, they never should have taken any of it.

Can you point me to any research to back that up? Last I read up on it, it was still effective when painted on the walls of homes in Africa. The big debate was how much got into the wider environment when it wasn't being sprayed everwhere indiscriminately. But that was probably at least 20 years ago that I read that.

I listed that as option III).

The massive wave of species extinctions that we will cause in the next century will be irrevocable, and will be "felt" for tens of millions of years if there are people left to "feel" them. Tigers and rhinos and elephants and whales will not "recover" -- they'll be gone forever.

Modern humans have only existed as a species for half a million years, and our civilizations are at most ten thousand years old.

They think their power and their money will insulate them from it. They're wrong.

It's also just selfishness, greed, and a devotion to short-term gains. They don't care that cities will be underwater in 50 years if they can make a quick buck today because they'll be dead in 50 years and don't care about what happens to other people.

If we go back to promoting coal no one will live long enough to benefit from nature anyway. And nature doesn't matter much in a gold plated suite overlooking Fifth Avenue.

We must modernize the Endangered Species Act in a way that empowers states, promotes the recovery of species, and allows local economies to thrive.

I hate this shit. I hate it so much. I hate that they get to put company's current bank balances first but throw in the phrase "promotes the recovery of species" and call it good. "Look! We said RIGHT HERE that we care about some animals or whatever, how can you claim we don't? No, don't look at the results, look at this little string of 5 words I said once - that is the only thing that matters!"

I guess it's easier to protect species when there are only 12 of them left. At that point, we'll be able to take REAL good care of them! (What polar bears? Do you mean those fuzzy white dinosaurs that were supposed to have lived suuuuuuper long ago, like, years ago? Did those even exist? I don't remember reading about polar bears in the Bible. I don't know what you're talking about.)
