All these revelations make it clear that Meadows didn’t do much besides text people all day.

The idea that Trump could be permitted access to the levers of control in America again is absolutely horrifying. He long suspected a “deep-state” of decent people working desperately to undermine his worst impulses. He now knows it was largely true. What he might do a second time around to remove all traces of honesty and humanity from our government is the stuff of nightmares. America is headed someplace very dark if that somehow comes to pass.

It's rare to see her byline at NYT, even on Trump stories - these days they are mostly written by Michael Schmidt and/or Katie Benner. I bet they pay her quite a bit, which makes it even odder that her tepid assessment of the latest Trump crime revelations went on page A15.

"Which is not how these things work"

I understand that, and I addressed it with "I don't realistically expect DOJ to broadcast daily updates of an ongoing investigation"

"unless you work in Garland's office, you have no way of knowing"

I understand that as well, and it's actually part of the phenomenon I was pointing out. Absent some kind of reinforcement, a belief that "something will happen", or ANY belief, will self-extinguish. Rightly or wrongly, that is literally the way our brains work.

"Watergate took two years"

We don't have two years. Today is April 11. We have until November.
