Missouri Revised Statutes Section 115.293.12. If sufficient evidence is shown to an election authority that any absentee voter has died prior to the opening of the polls on election day, the ballot of the deceased voter shall be rejected if it is still sealed in the ballot envelope.
So the question is, how do they receive "sufficient evidence"? There will be an obit in the local paper on Sunday. Are they smart enough to check obits? Frankly, I doubt it. I worked in the local County Clerk's office 40 years ago, and there was a noticeable absence of higher brain functions.
It has occurred to me that this particular situation may account for a certain percentage of the reports of dead people voting that I have read about in previous election years.
My info source works for the auditor office in my county, so it's legit. They cross-reference ballots with obituaries and monthly reports from DHS. If you can hold off on reporting the death, then I guess it could scootch in under the radar.

What happens after you vote is inconsequential. What if you vote in person at 8:00 AM on November 8 and you die on the same day before the polls close? Your vote still counts and so should a ballot mailed in during the early voting period.
