Why is it so hard to find people to do these FEMA jobs? I feel that there should be lots of em. Logistics men who know about emergency medicine and telephone poles and what kinds of vehicles there are and who to call-- I mean people who've done it all before. I bet there are plenty in the Red Cross and in the Armed Forces. Or is it just that the Republican ones are chosen for other reasons than knowing these things? I remember long after Katrina, I heard that most of the money appropriated still hadn't been spent. It's so insane.

I think I answered that question already. They did that study because they were showboating.

The public is so ignorant about science! Ok, maybe in the future, if they ever figure out the fuel.

What d'you mean? Staggering around in the dark in your house that has holes in the floor, trying to find something that's not in its regular place because half your house is missing? How can Brock Long be blamed for that? And how can he be expected to know why Geo. Washington U. did a study? They're out of their minds! Probably looking for attention. So please lay off him-- he has small children.

Ah, the way you phrased it made me think you didn't believe such even happens. I was trying to say that yes, it does happen, and furthermore the shitty response is most definitely the cause of many of those deaths because prior emergencies didn't leave people in that situation for such a long time.

So Brock is "highly respected throughout the agency," eh? Must be quite the shock, then, for that thin veneer to have been stripped off and everyone gets to see his true colors.

Of course, that is true for this entire rotten government.

so, because people died a month or two or 5 after the hurricane was long past, we shouldn't count those deaths in the total, even when they can attributed to direct causation--cholera, malnutrition, etc. The study itself stated that doctors who filled out death certificates for people in PR didn't know that they should've taken factors like the hurricane into consideration.

I'm aware of that- but it's a piss poor excuse to dodge the death toll
