Not to give too much personal info, but I have a rather magnificent waterfall on my property. The foundation from the original grist mill that was built alongside it in 1805 is still there. Plus I own the property on the other side of the falls, so no one can build some tacky thing on the other side. When the snow melts in the spring at its headwaters in the Adirondacks, the falls sound like a freight train - loud, but soothing.

The only problem I have is that randos will come onto my property all times of the year to check out the falls, and leave their litter behind. Once I even had people drive their ATVs right onto my property just so they could "look at" the falls. I let them know emphatically that they and their lawn-wrecking machines were not welcome.

There's a bunch of waterfalls in my town and county, including one that is a 215-foot (66 m) plunge waterfall that is the highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains.

So I am very used to them and also to the idiot students who did not listen to Paul and/or TLC and tried walking the walls of some of them and died.

I love the Thornton’s appearances, but am sad that this one was sparked by him being poorly. I hope the little one heals up well and we see more of him.

Have you considered putting him on staff? Official emotional support animal of Wonkette.

In honor of Flag Day, or whatever it was a few days ago, I present "America, Fuck Yeah! Or Worst Internship Evar." I like hearing people's family stories, the different experiences they had in earlier America. This week's story was from my wife's friend Kim, whose grandmother and mother (not sure about grandfather or father) were patriotic Americans who signed up for an internship with the U.S. government in the late 30s/early 40s. They got to go to a special camp, do some work, hang out with all sorts of other people exactly like them, all sorts of fun. They were from L.A., had some property where Knott's Berry Farm now is. Unfortunately, when their internship ended, they discovered that they no longer owned their property, but it was okay, because as the grandmother and mother say "This is how America works."

Hang on, my wife says I got part of that story wrong: it was an internment, not internship. Well, that doesn't sound as much fun.

TLDR: America went to war, and all her family got was an internment. And their property stolen by said country to build an amusement park. Really, it doesn't get more America than that. Unless they'd died in a mass shooting, but those weren't quite so hip back in the day.

I live near Manzanar and I've known a few internees over the years. None of them described it as a good time, and it's not hard to understand why.

I worked with a fellow of Japanese descent. his family owned a large amount of property south of Seattle. his grandfather was interned and the property taken away. upon that property was later built southcenter mall, a very popular shopping mall that generated mass wealth. of course, that property was taken away from his grandfather.

Huh. "Waterfalls" is a great song, but I always thought it was an odd metaphor. Why waterfalls? So I looked into it. It turns out it's a direct reference to a Paul McCartney song:

Some of y'all may already know that. I didn't. I was never a big Wings fan. Anyway, here's TLC:

''Waterfalls" was NOT a Wings song. It was on Paul's solo ''McCartney II" album.

I made the transition from second shift to first shift in 2019. It wasn't that tough, but a pint of cold brew before clocking in seems to have a "hit the ground running" effect.

I am going to disagree. Go ahead and chase the waterfalls. I have seen some and they mostly just sit there in the same place. Very easy to chase and catch.

Walking along the edge of the waterfall not so advisable.

This one Oregon state park has ten waterfalls in it.

There are a lot of places I'd like to see for the first time before I shuffle off but I'd probably trade one of them for another trip to Oregon. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been.
