So yesterday was the Republican primary for governor here in Idaho. Of course Brad Little is the nominee, and he'll win a third term in the fall. One of his opponents is/was Mark Fiitzpatrick who is a fucking dork. Rolls around in a cybertruck, owns a bar that often hosts right wing fringe/conspiracy type events and he was the host of some Straight Pride hotenanny to which dozens of people showed up. That man got about 65,000 votes! I love my hometown of Boise, but overall I hate the state. We're doomed!
So, Rubio is indicting Raul Castro for some downed planes in 1996. Thirty years ago. Rubio wants Cuba to go back to being a capitalist country and bring back the mafia. Dumold just wants to build golf courses and Trump towers there...
Sitting in the Hyatt Place 'lobby bar' (barely a lobby bar), having to protect my glass of vino with a napkin from the dive-bombing gnats, waiting for the T-storm to blow through before I venture out for dinner. When the auto-opening lobby door closes, it sounds EXACTLY like George Costanza's Jon Voight car when it died and caught on fire (yes, I have a deranged mind for things like that when I'm exhausted). I think I'll have one more, then grab my umbrella and take my chances with the weather.
I haz a giant and unwieldy sad, because i do not understand why a decades-old friend of mine is ghosting me. Is he ill? Has his GF chained him up in the basement? Joined a cult? Went into WitSec? Just exercising his fundamental right to be a bastard? This is me, epically not getting it, like failing to see the point of things is kind of my jam.
Also feeling inconvenienced since I will now have to find someone else to have power of attorney and be able to pull the plug on me should that become necessary. WTAF I need an explanation and feel pretty certain I won't get anything like one until it is much too late. Le sigh.
From the piece: "I mean, this is just what women want, right? A guy who smashes his face in with a hammer, has done meth to lose weight, shoots at dead alligators, injects himself with bizarre chemicals, constantly discusses and obsesses over his own level of attractiveness as well as the attractiveness of other men, and is bad at sex."
I just need to vent. I have stopped talking to my Trumpy neighbor about politics because it is a no-win situation. However, I still see her and have casual conversation.
I had a horrible Mother's Day, as I do every year, because I am estranged from my three adult daughters. I don't know why they don't care for me, other than that I am chronically ill, and folks generally don't like sick people. I try not to talk about my medical problems because I am mindful of this.
Anyway, Trumpy Neighbor just stopped me to brag about how her daughter took her to Las Vegas for Mother's Day, where they stayed in a plush hotel and saw two shows. She couldn't stop gushing, and it took me a few minutes to get away from her.
She knows about my kids and I can't imagine what possessed her. Ugh!
What I wouldn't give for even one of my daughters to be kindly.
Did some reading today on What Congress Is Up To before the Memorial Day Recess:
--Sports legislation to try and deal with the current College Sports issue of "the big schools can just pay athletes more and this unbalances things." Democrats were working to make sure athletes could still protest and organize, GOP was considering a per-sport Cap to be set by the NCAA (so, like, you give 1 footballer 500k, you have less to spend on others). However the Congressional Black Caucus recently pulled out in support of the Black Athlete Boycott, as they don't feel like helping southern schools right now. So it may be dead without them in on it, they were the main Dems onboard
--Housing legislation! House slightly modified the Senate version, passed it 400-something to 13, with all the no votes from the GOP. Imo, most changes look good, except stripping out the provision that large real estate buyers can only hold a home for seven years before needing to sell it to a single family. Apparently House Dems felt it was unenforceable and could hurt the rest of the legislation if sued over, with how it was written? Anyway, that was the only change I disliked, other changes looked great! Expecting a Senate fast track, however 47 is demanding the SAVE act be attached. He is being Ignored. And the pass margin could EASILY overcome a veto if he bothered
--Iran War! We advanced the Senate resolution now that Cassidy is mad at Trump. Praise spineless revenge!
--Gambling! Senate is looking in to differentiating gambling and prop bets from stock trading, as apparently many laws do not do this well enough and the gambling sites are taking advantage!
--FISA: seems to be going nowhere atm. 47 also wants the Save act attached to this to try and get it
--Farm bill? Little news on its Senate status, GOP acting like it's already passed for ad reasons
--Appropriations: We might be able to get the VA funded and just shut everything ELSE down in October! The current bill is considered bipartisanly sexy!
It's much too late to try to dictate some kind of monetary rules for colleges and their athletes now. That ship has sailed, the train has left the station, the horses have all left the barn. In other words, FUGGHEDABOUDIT!
Apparently the main plan is to try and set Base Rules instead of the current patchwork of state rules that exist? But yeah, it's a complex issue. And again, without the CBC it's probably dead for the moment.
Honestly the Sport Bill and Housing Bill stuff seems the most interesting. Former because APPARENTLY Ted Cruz is working super hard on it because he sees it as a way to show off before 2028 while the Dem lead Cantwell is just like "sure, fine, but we're fixing things so whatever, Ted."
I did have the House's housing vote wrong, it was 396-13, not over 400. My bad! But Schumer is pushing to fast track the House version in the Senate and thus far Warren and Tim Scott (the Senate leads) seem on board. Turns out there are still some restrictions on large investors, just not Forced Divestment Timer.
Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough blocked the inclusion of $1 billion of funding for Trump’s White House ballroom in Republicans’ budget reconciliation package.
Morning toot from the Pedo Protector: “Over the years, she has been brutal to Republicans, but not so to the Dumocrats — So why has she not been replaced? “The Dumocrats cheat, lie, and steal, especially when it comes to Votes in Elections, but stick together, whereas the Republicans allow the Elizabeth MacDonoughs of the World to stay in power, and brutalize us.” [HuffPost]
Jesus God, this guy is an encylopedia entry on how to be a dick. Throw in some racism and he's his the MAGA trifecta.
Looks like the robins have come back to scope out one of my light fixtures for a nest operation. It is a good spot because protected from rain.
Fourth year in a row. Happy to see them.

Look for a pencil with bite marks.
My glass might have bite marks if I have to fend off any more gnats.

I’m sorry. Hugs, if wanted.

She did the Senate a favor, because it sounds like they don’t have the votes to fund the Billion Dollar Ballroom.
That actually took longer than I thought.
Must have been a lull in the ballroom blueprints.
Hurry up and die, Donald.
