OT: I love the fact that Bournemouth are up 2-0 over AC Milan, and Milan are playing with ten men because their goal keeper drew a red card.

I recognize some of those words. 🤪

(I am surprised that the corrupt MAGA DOJ is investigating one of their own.

Politico, a.k.a. "Tiger Beat on the Potomac" (h/t Charlie Pierce), is in hot water because it does what it always has - function as a gossip column for Republican politicians?

But they always TELL!

I'm gonna just run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. Why Pulte or McCarthy or whoever? Hasn't Natalie Harp poured her heart into Trump's Presidency? Hasn't she earned a promotion? I think she'd make a fine Chief of Staff for dealing with a hostile Congress and a couple of hundred infighting and backstabbing MAGAs!

tehbaddr's avatar

In a sense she already has the job, and that's a problem.

OT:

If Uue are not using all yr free times to watch Scary-Asse Shitte thees Hawlerween, what even in the heck are Uue doing?

Today, Birb started to watch "Season of the Witch," directed by George Romero, on the MUBI channel.

It might be on some other channels, if you want to see it.

Also, if you have a library near you, they may still have DVDs or Blu-Rays! Go check them out!

That shit is a mess. The lady and the man are walking in the woods, then there's a crying baby on the ground, and then the man puts a leash on the lady and walks her to a fenced-in area -

Now that's a proper scary movie!

If you have some snaccs, get them out.

Marlon Rando's avatar

Having been scared for real on numerous occasions, I eschew the horror genre. Same thing with roller coasters sky diving and rock climbing. Been scared enough.

I like being scared in safe, controllable environments.

A leash?

Written back in May:

______________________________________

She indicated the collared and leashed canine with it and asked, “Is he your prisoner? What’s going on here?”

“Prisoner? Good Fomo, no!” the hentai beast said in a scandalized tone. “It’s a town ordinance here; no canines allowed out of doors without a collar and leash.” He tugged slightly on the lead and the canine stepped forward. “The town council didn’t make any distinction between feral and anthro, I’m afraid, so what can you do?”

The canine shrugged and rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t mind so much, if it weren’t for having to get my shots every year.” He flicked a small brass tag on his collar with a finger.

“Hey!” the hentai beast said. “You’re not supposed to be talking. You know the ordinance.”

Giving the beast another slightly exasperated eyeroll, the German Shepherd said “Woof,” in a sour tone.

I watched some 1960s Italian horror the last few days. Long Hair of Death and Mask of Satan (aka Black Sunday).

And my son and I recently watched Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter. Every time a new character appeared, we'd say they were the vampire!

EyeQueue's avatar

I can't find it. Are you sure Argento directed it? Or does it go by another name? I see a Season of the Witch dir. Romero and one from 2011 starring Nicholas Cage.

Parakeetist's avatar

Yeah, that was George Romero. I'll fix the post. Thanks.

EyeQueue's avatar

No worries! I thought it was a different title in the US versus Italy, maybe. XD

I've never seen that one. I'll check it out.

I never liked horror. Who in the hell needs horror, when I can just read the news?

However, Halloween is all about passing out candy to small children who dress up in costumes and is awesome.

'Like Sandhurst.'

"What?"

'Parts of me keep passing out," replied Arthur Dent.

EyeQueue's avatar

I liked horror from a young age (like 11 or 12 and even the goofy black and white shit when I was younger and creature features) b/c I discovered I liked being scared in a safe, controlled environment.

B/c I couldn't control the other scary shit that was happening around me, I guess.

ETA: This Wes Craven quotation has always spoken to me, too:

"[Horror is] like boot camp for the psyche. In real life, human beings are packaged in the flimsiest of packages, threatened by real and sometimes horrifying dangers... But the narrative form puts these fears into a manageable series of events. It gives us a way of thinking rationally about our fears."

OT: We all know that making the litigation disaster tourism industry great again is what Fatberg 2.0 is all about. Accordingly:

>>A federal judge said President Trump must sit for a deposition with lawyers for the BBC by Dec. 11 as part of his ongoing defamation lawsuit against the British broadcaster.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjolique Lett set the deadline during a hearing in Miami on Thursday morning, according to the Associated Press. The judge ordered Mr. Trump to answer questions by Dec. 11 or face penalties, which could include dismissal of his lawsuit against the BBC, unless the period for the president and the network to collect information in the case is extended, the AP reported.<<

Oh Trump will probably allow the case to be dismissed. I just wonder whether the BBC can file a countersuit and keep it going. This must have cost them a ton of money.

Bobathonic's avatar

"Default judgment for the defendant, in the amount of $10B."

Russell Jones's avatar

Attorney fees and other costs and expenses of litigation generally aren't counterclaim material, but the BBC can certainly take a run at recovering those via post-dismissal motion. :D

Fuck it, gonna also use this time to encourage anyone to see POTUS (the play) if it's ever in your area. One hell of a farce, possibly needed in these times.

POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive is just really funny, period. The President is never onstage but is implied to be some sort of W/Bill Clinton combo (his gaffes aren't severe enough to be Trumpian). The seven women include:

His chief of staff: a woman who longs to maybe be a major politician herself and is going mad trying to keep everything going smoothly. Honestly gives Wiles vibes despite being written before Wiles was a thing

His first lady: very strong Michelle Obama/Hillary Clinton vibes with her wanting to talk about her accomplishments and initiatives and constantly getting shoehorned back into the role of "wife." Simultaneously So Done and yet So Ready To Do Things

His butch twin sister: she just got out of jail and people are worried she's gonna cause a new scandal, also she has romantic history with one of the other women (iirc a reporter?). Yes she pretends to be him at one point as part of A Scheme in the show
